Overview
Senior Lead Software Engineer, Back End Capital One is seeking Back End Software Engineers who are passionate about marrying data with emerging technologies. You’ll be on the forefront of driving a major transformation within Capital One, joining a team focused on building, maintaining, and supporting core financial processing systems that power the Trade Credit team, including a financial ledger system for daily reconciliation and mission-critical tasks to deliver a world-class customer experience. You will create complex backend systems in Java and API layers in Node.js, leveraging AWS services like Lambda, Step Functions, and RDS.
What You’ll Do
Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers with experience in distributed microservices and full-stack systems to create solutions that meet regulatory needs for the company.
Share passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring engineers, and, from time to time, coding or evaluating code.
Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that drive powerful experiences for millions of Americans.
Utilize programming languages including Java, Python, SQL, Node, Go, and Scala; work with Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases; use Container Orchestration services like Docker and Kubernetes; and leverage AWS tools and services.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience
At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)
Qualifications
Master’s Degree
9+ years of experience in at least one of Java, Scala, Python, Go, or Node.js
3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
4+ years of experience in open source frameworks
1+ years of people management experience
2+ years of experience in Agile practices

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. This salary information is solely for candidates hired to work within one of these locations and reflects the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based on hours worked.
Chicago, IL: $204,900 - $233,800 for Sr. Lead Software Engineer
McLean, VA: $225,400 - $257,200 for Sr. Lead Software Engineer
Richmond, VA: $204,900 - $233,800 for Sr. Lead Software Engineer
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range for that location; the actual offer will be shown in the offer letter.
This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI). Incentives may be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
