Saltz Michelson Architects (SMA), an award-winning architecture firm based in Fort Lauderdale, is seeking a
hands-on Strategic Financial Controller
to oversee our financial operations and support the growth of the practice. This is a leadership role for an experienced financial professional who thrives in a collaborative, project-based environment and is excited to partner with both executives and project teams. Office Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL - In person - after 90 day evaluation period - possible hybrid. What You’ll Do
Lead all accounting operations: monthly close, reporting, and year-end financials. Oversee payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and client billing (including AIA billings). Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow to support growth initiatives. Partner with Project Managers on job costing and project financials. Ensure compliance, audits, and internal controls. Present financial reports and insights to firm leadership and the Board. Act as a key financial advisor to executive leadership, providing insights and recommendations. Support financial decision-making through data analysis and reporting. Assist in evaluating financial risks and opportunities for business expansion. What We’re Looking For
10+ years of progressive accounting experience (Controller/Assistant Controller level). Strong background in WIP, % completion accounting, and AIA billing. Proven leadership skills with a detail-driven, proactive approach. Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills with a hands-on, detail-driven approach.
