Overview
Director of Information Governance
— leading the Records, Conflicts, and Docketing departments for a law firm in Portland, WA. This role is critical to ensuring compliance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across the firm’s information lifecycle. You’ll serve as the firm’s subject matter expert on governance systems and collaborate with IT and legal teams to optimize workflows and data integrity.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage the Records, Conflicts, and Docketing teams, driving performance, accountability, and innovation.
Develop and refine firm-wide policies for information lifecycle management, conflicts clearance, docketing compliance, and data privacy.
Oversee configuration and usage of Elite 3E, iManage, and ProLaw systems; partner with IT and legal teams to enhance functionality and data quality.
Serve as the escalation point for system issues and cross-departmental coordination.
Establish KPIs and service-level standards; ensure staff training and performance align with goals.
Conduct internal evaluations to identify process improvements through automation, new tools, or policy updates.
Manage vendor relationships and oversee external service providers.
Participate in strategic planning and budgeting, advising on technology investments and compliance resources.
Stay informed on legal industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in information governance.
Ideal Candidate
15+ years
of experience in information governance, records management, conflicts, or docketing, including
5+ years
in a senior leadership role.
Deep expertise in
Elite 3E
and
iManage —including system administration, user support, and process optimization;
ProLaw
experience is a plus.
Strong understanding of legal records retention, conflict-check protocols, docketing procedures, and client confidentiality.
Proven success in implementing firm-wide policies and leading change across diverse teams.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills.
Experience managing departmental budgets and vendor relationships.
Professional certifications such as
IGP, CRM, or CIP
are strongly preferred.
