Overview Zurich is currently looking to hire an experienced Excess Casualty Underwriter (Level II or III) to join our growing Excess Casualty team. We are open to hiring an experienced Underwriter in any location commutable to a Zurich office, with hiring preference for New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta or Dallas. While we are open to locations nationwide, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and be in the office/market three days per week.
Responsibilities
You will develop and maintain relationships with broker partners and customers in the Construction industry in support of business objectives.
You will leverage your casualty underwriting acumen across risk assessment, exposure evaluation and pricing to generate and maintain a profitable book of new and renewal business.
You will work collaboratively across business units including but not limited to claims, finance, risk engineering, actuary, and technical underwriting while gaining extensive knowledge in a growing and innovative industry.
You will be empowered to use your market-facing, negotiation and interpersonal skills to grow and develop relationships with preferred distribution partners in an assigned territory.
What you will be responsible for
Underwriting and pricing a solid renewal book.
Identifying and analyzing new growth opportunities.
Ensuring that accounts are qualified, meet the organization’s appetite and are balanced with sound business opportunities.
Making agent/broker/customer and on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.
Overseeing negotiations of Terms & Conditions and closing deals.
Ensuring cross-sell within areas of responsibility to increase product density with the Zurich customer.
Basic Qualifications Excess Casualty Underwriter II
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.
Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Excess Casualty Underwriter III
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.
Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience with Microsoft Office.

Compensation and Benefits At Zurich, compensation for roles is influenced by a variety of factors, including location, role, skill set, and experience. Zurich commits to providing a fair and reasonable compensation range for each role. The combined salary range for this position is $75,000.00 – $165,000.00. The proposed salary range for the Excess Casualty Underwriter II is $75,000.00 – $125,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%. For the Excess Casualty Underwriter III is $98,500.00 – $165,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.
Additional rewards may include short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled.
