Overview

Sr. Regulatory Engineer, Electrical Safety Codes & Standards role at Tesla. The Sr. Regulatory Engineer will be responsible for energy and charging product deployment and industry development activities regarding governing codes, standards and regulations, with a focus on electrical safety codes and standards impacting energy and charging products. This role involves leading and supporting cross-functional initiatives from Compliance, Engineering, Policy, and Operations to ensure streamlined approvals across North America and, to a lesser extent, internationally. The role also supports codes and standards development through research, white papers, and active participation in electrical safety stakeholder committees (e.g., UL 1741, UL 9540, UL 9741, UL 3141, UL 2202, UL 2594, UL 3202, NFPA 70, NEMA) and handles jurisdictional approval considerations for product adherence to safety standards. What You'll Do

Lead electrical safety standards development activities applicable to Tesla products Ensure proposed changes to standards remove barriers to product innovation while maintaining high safety standards Manage internal communications regarding expected changes, their impact, and determinations for mitigating risks caused by product regulations Join external groups and committees to support codes and standards development Support product and project engineering with electrical safety standards expertise and design-for-compliance activities Develop technical white papers to support product compliance and deployment Provide technical expertise in support of regulatory initiatives by the policy team Participate in technical documentation change control and maintenance for compliance-related documents Support internal and external teams with jurisdictional approval escalations hindering product installation What You'll Bring

Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with electrical, renewable, and/or energy storage focus, or equivalent experience 5-7 years of experience in project engineering, code and standards development activities, and/or jurisdictional approval processes Understanding of electrical safety regulations such as NFPA 70, UL 1741, UL 9540, UL 9741, UL 3141, UL 2202, UL 2594, UL 3202, and their development/application Technical understanding of PV, Energy Storage Systems, and EV Charging technologies Advanced and concise technical writing skills Strong communication skills to interact with standards development groups and industry members Ability to organize time and tasks in a fast-paced environment with strong project management and analytical skills Willingness and ability to travel frequently Benefits & Compensation

Expected Compensation: $88,000 - $186,000 annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary based on location, knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may include other elements dependent on the offer. Details provided with an offer of employment.
