Overview The University of California, Berkeley, is a leading institution of higher education dedicated to equity, diversity, and social justice. We seek an equity-minded candidate to lead and oversee the School's research portfolio within the Berkeley School of Education (BSE). This role reports to the Associate Dean of Research and works with the Assistant Dean of Development and External Relations to align and uplift the School's priorities.

Departmental Overview The Berkeley School of Education (BSE) is a top-ranked school of education that prepares future leaders in education policy, practice, and research. BSE emphasizes equity and social justice in its diverse faculty and student body and collaborates with urban schools to improve teaching and learning for all students.

Position Summary The Director of Research Development develops and oversees the School's research portfolio and collaborates with internal and external partners to advance research priorities and scholarly impact.

Responsibilities

Strategic Research Advancement: identify institutional research priorities and provide planning support to the Dean's Office; assist with sponsor site visits.

Communication of Research and Research Opportunities: raise the profile of BSE strengths with external funding sources; develop regular communications about new funding opportunities; conduct grant writing workshops.

Enhancement of Collaboration: convene multi-disciplinary groups; catalyze cross-disciplinary research initiatives; coordinate resources and tools to promote collaboration; maintain collaboration tools and facilitate collaborations with UC Berkeley and other institutes.

Proposal Development & Support Functions: assist faculty with grant applications (emphasizing junior faculty, training grants, and complex multi-faculty proposals); provide proposal development, grant writing, editing, and budget support; liaise with funding agencies; support post-award setup of funded projects; maintain a file of successful proposals.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge of UC Berkeley mission, policies, and higher education issues, with the ability to learn quickly.

Experience in grant proposal development with government agencies and private funders.

Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and political acumen.

Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving abilities.

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in education, grant writing, or related field; or equivalent experience.

Knowledge of the K-16+ education landscape and commitment to excellence and equity in public education.

Salary & Benefits This is a 3-year, full-time contract appointment (40 hours/week), eligible for UC benefits with the possibility of extension subject to funding. Salary range: $85,800.00 - $158,200.00.
