Overview
Element is seeking a
General Manager II
to oversee its U.S. Environmental and Food laboratories, with locations in
Indiana ,
Louisiana , and
Oregon . This role reports directly to the Division Director and carries full responsibility for the overall performance, growth, and operational excellence of the assigned locations. The
General Manager II
will ensure that business operations and processes meet or exceed Element’s standards, while driving profitability, fostering a strong safety culture, and positioning the laboratories for sustainable success. As the senior leader for these locations, the
General Manager II
will be accountable for executing business strategies, achieving financial and operational targets, and providing strong leadership to teams across multiple sites. This includes managing key client relationships, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, and developing talent to support both current and future business needs. The successful candidate will bring proven experience in multi-site operations management, a strong track record of business growth and process improvement, and the ability to inspire teams in a dynamic and highly regulated industry. Responsibilities
Drive and deliver annual Operational Plan commitments, including revenues, profit, working capital, and operational performance across multiple sites Foster and maintain a culture of safety first Collaborate with location support functions and systems such as QA, Safety and Health, Sales and Strategic Accounts, Finance, Human Resources, Business Improvement, and Service Excellence Develop and implement both short- and long-term business plans and strategies encompassing operational goals, equipment needs, and staffing requirements Align local strategies with group objectives, leveraging geographic industry knowledge, technical expertise, and capital expenditure planning Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts in accordance with company policies while supporting the cultivation of new business opportunities Guide staff on reporting requirements and ensure accurate and timely submissions Prepare reliable forecasts, manage working capital effectively, and implement corrective actions when necessary to achieve plan objectives Support employee development by providing clear direction, coaching, and growth opportunities Represent Element with professionalism to customers, vendors, employees, and external organizations through active participation in professional associations, task forces, employee meetings, and site visits Ensure compliance with all company policies, including Terms and Conditions, trade compliance, workplace conduct, and ethical standards Uphold adherence to local, state, and federal regulations relating to safety, environmental responsibility, and corporate governance Take full accountability for all personnel decisions and workforce management at the location Oversee scheduling to ensure adequate coverage and balanced workloads Promote a respectful and inclusive work environment where employees understand expectations, resolve issues constructively, and comply with workplace rules Skills / Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) in chemistry or technical-related discipline 10+ years managing a laboratory (environmental and food testing) with revenue of $10M+ Experience multi-site leadership highly desired Technical leadership is vital to the production and operation of assigned tests and to the overall operation of the entire lab Must possess a strong ability to communicate (written and oral) effectively with clients and colleagues with great attention to detail and timing of results Ability to organize the lab as a whole in line with the strategic, operational and technical goals of the entire company Strong organizational, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to effectively establish and maintain two-way communications to understand the needs and concerns of all departments Ability to effectively provide managerial guidance to all staff on all functions within the lab Ability to deeply analyse and resolve operational, finance and other significant business issues on a daily basis Proven track record of success with regard to managerial, technical and operational competency both inside and outside of the lab Company Overview
