Overview
Software Engineer, Large Model System Graduate (Machine Learning Sys-US) - 2026 Start (BS/MS) role at ByteDance. The Applied Machine Learning - Machine Learning Systems team provides end-to-end ML experience and resources for the company, building heterogeneous ML training and inference systems based on GPU and advanced chip technology. The team advances ML systems technology to accelerate models such as stable diffusion, language modeling and multi-modality models, and develops hardware acceleration technologies for cloud computing (distributed systems, compilers, HPC, RDMA networking). The team is reimagining ML infra for large-scale language models. Responsibilities
Responsible for the machine learning system development of the company’s large-scale models, researching new applications and solutions in areas such as search, recommendation, advertising, content creation, conversation, and customer service, to meet growing demand for intelligent interaction and to improve users’ experiences. Design and development of the architecture of large-scale machine learning systems, addressing high concurrency, high reliability, and high scalability challenges. Cover sub-directions of ML systems including resource scheduling, model training, model inference, data management, and workflows. Iterate and develop the system using customer-driven scenarios. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Final year or recent graduate with a background in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent industrial experience Master distributed, parallel computing principles; familiarity with recent advances in computing, storage, networking, and hardware technologies Familiar with state-of-the-art ML algorithms and mainstream platforms (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, MXNet) Proficiency in at least one or two programming languages in Linux (e.g., C/C++, Go, Python) Preferred Qualifications Winners of ACM/ICPC, NOI/IOI and other competitions Familiar with NLP/CV algorithms and large-model training experience Experience in GPU-based high-performance computing Relevant technical experience from internships, work, coding competitions, or publications Curiosity about new technologies and entrepreneurship; high creativity and quick problem-solving Compensation & Benefits
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $112,725 - $177,840 annually. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Base pay may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives and restricted stock units. Benefits include medical, dental, vision insurance from day one, 401(k) with company match, paid parental leave, disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, 10 paid holidays, 10 paid sick days, and 17 days of paid personal time (prorated on start date and tenure).
