Position Description The Director, Institutional Giving is a full-time role responsible for philanthropic support through foundation grants, corporate giving, and government grants and allocations. The position oversees preparation of foundation, corporate, and government grants and reports, gathers information from multiple departments, and works with the Development team to develop a strategic plan for foundation giving. The role leads government RFP responses and manages consultant grant writer relationships. It also collaborates with staff to develop planning, implementation, and evaluation to inform proposals and reports, and carries a grants prospect portfolio mutually agreed upon. The Director reports to the Chief Development Officer.
Responsibilities
Work within the Development team to develop a strategic plan for foundation, corporate, and government support.
Manage the successful work and goal attainment of the Development Writers (2) and contracted grant writers, providing guidance and support.
Lead the preparation and writing of government proposals in response to Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and discretionary opportunities.
Write foundation and other proposals and reports in a style consistent with other Graham materials.
Contract with and oversee consultants in the writing, editing, and timely submission of grant proposals.
Liaise with advocacy experts and internal advocacy leaders for coordination and acceleration of funding applications and efforts.
Coordinate with multiple departments (e.g., fiscal, evaluation) to gather necessary data for proposals and reports.
Work closely with the fiscal team to develop proposal budgets and reports.
Follow grant guidelines carefully, collaborate with initiative leaders to develop proposal content, prepare attachments, and submit proposals in advance of deadlines.
Conduct research on prospective foundation and corporate funders.
Conduct outreach to prospective funders and liaise with current funders to learn about opportunities, guidelines, and timelines.
Develop and maintain effective, long-term relationships with grantors.
Plan and participate in foundation site visits, as appropriate.
Prepare other written materials as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Management Of Other Professional Team Members
Set clear expectations, including outlining tasks, responsibilities and performance metrics (OKRs). Communicate the plan for their contribution to the team and Graham goals.
Provide necessary resources and training by ensuring access to tools, software, and training materials needed.
Plan a progressive training schedule that builds responsibilities gradually.
Foster a supportive environment and build relationships to share company culture.
Schedule and complete regular check-ins and feedback around responsibilities and OKRs.
Position Qualifications
7+ years of proven experience in grants management and grant writing, with increasing responsibility demonstrated.
Experience writing proposals or white papers in response to government RFPs.
Bachelor’s Degree required, any discipline.
Outstanding writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
Ability to develop, implement, and track fundraising strategies; experience achieving financial results.
Experience managing portfolios of grantors and prospects.
Budget and financial tracking experience; strong analytical skills.
Knowledge of fundraising best practices and donor stewardship.
Strong organizational and project management skills; high attention to detail.
Expertise with donor database software; Raisers Edge NXT preferred.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Must be willing to travel throughout NYC, as needed.
Professional experience writing grants or gaining philanthropic support for youth development, workforce development, community organizing, family support, and child welfare is a plus.

Base Salary: $125,000.00/year
FLSA Status: Exempt
