Overview

Senior Software Engineer, SRE at

Abridge . This role is focused on reliability, performance, and scalability of our software systems in a hyperscale environment. Base pay range

$162,000.00/yr - $234,000.00/yr About Abridge

Abridge was founded in 2018 with the mission of powering deeper understanding in healthcare. Our AI-powered platform is purpose-built for medical conversations, improving clinical documentation efficiencies while enabling clinicians to focus on patients. We transform patient-clinician conversations into structured clinical notes in real time, with deep EMR integrations. We map AI-generated summaries to ground truth to help providers trust outputs. We are pioneers in generative AI for healthcare and emphasize responsible deployment across health systems. Our team includes MDs, AI scientists, PhDs, and engineers, with offices in San Francisco, New York, and Pittsburgh. The Role

Abridge’s services and engineering team are in hyperscale mode. We are looking for experienced SREs to join our team and help improve performance, stability, and scalability. This is a distributed-systems oriented role, about 80% software-focused and 20% cloud infrastructure-focused. You will build load testing and chaos engineering into CI pipelines, use observability and profiling tools to identify bottlenecks, rehome applications onto more scalable infrastructure, and support rapid adoption as we scale. You may be embedded with other teams for weeks or months. The platform balances engineering velocity with security at scale, offering opportunities to apply creativity, autonomy, and leadership to move from 0 to 1. This role provides a unique opportunity to grow in a rapidly expanding company leveraging emerging technologies. What You'll Do

Leverage load testing, chaos engineering, and other test practices to identify performance and latency bottlenecks and modify application code accordingly. Drive software changes to rehome applications onto new infrastructure (runtime environments, event-driven infra, databases, etc.) to improve scalability and enable multi-tenant deployments. Identify and implement software configuration changes and tuning parameters to improve performance and scalability. Build developer tools and modules that accelerate code development across the engineering organization. Collaborate with Platform and application teams to adopt internal developer platform elements, such as service templates and self-serve infrastructure. Establish and adopt SLOs and error budgets; drive metrics for app health to enable automated canary releases and better health monitoring. Improve incident response with enhanced observability, runbooks, and incident response practices. Document and train the engineering team on solutions, cloud-native design strategies, and tools; represent Abridge in the global platform engineering community. Who You Are

8+ years of software engineering experience focused on distributed systems or tooling, with interest in engineering enablement and software scaling. At least 2 years as a backend engineer focused on system performance and scalability. Experience reducing latency through observability and profiling; enjoy optimization. Experience building on Kubernetes and scaling compute services; familiarity with ArgoCD, Argo Rollouts, Istio, and related cloud-native tech. Comfortable securing services in Google Cloud Platform with Infrastructure as Code (GCP Projects, VPC, GKE, IAM). Experience building software with backend languages (Python, Go, Node, Rust). Experience monitoring distributed systems with Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and using metrics to drive performance improvements. Passion for engineering enablement and solving scaling challenges under pressure. Must be willing to work from our SF or NY office at least 3x per week . This position requires a hybrid work model with a minimum of three in-office days per week. Relocation assistance is available for candidates willing to move to San Francisco or New York. Must be willing to travel up to 10% . Abridge hosts a three-day builder team retreat every 3–6 months with hackathons, project sessions, and social events. We value learning and growth and welcome applicants who may not perfectly match a job description. Benefits and Culture
