Overview
Associate Director, Commercial Rebates role at Vertex Pharmaceuticals. This position reports to the Director, Rebate Operations within the US Market Access organization. The role applies an enterprise-level mindset and technical expertise at the intersection of data, process optimization, automation and innovation to build the Commercial team and enable management of traditional and value-based US Commercial payer rebates. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, results-driven, and willing to be hands-on while building new functional capabilities. Key Responsibilities
Build, lead and motivate the team; prioritize and allocate work to ensure high performance and professional development. Provide insights during commercial contracting strategy design, contract development, negotiation, and execution. Operate contract strategies compliantly to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and sustainability; establish SOPs to translate contract terms into operational solutions that fulfill access and financial obligations. Manage end-to-end contract administration operations, including contract setup in Model N/Revitas, rebate eligibility, duplicate discount validation, dispute and customer payment administration for traditional and value-based rebates. Collaborate with DTE to ensure Model N/Revitas reflects contract terms and, if needed, establish manual spreadsheets for accurate financial analysis and government reporting translations. Manage contract compliance, including verification of eligible plans and validation of customer policies to confirm rebate eligibility; interpret medical policies, formulary decisions, prior authorizations, and reimbursement pathways. Research, review, and interpret complex data to evaluate performance, and perform financial analytics to validate rebate calculations. Address customer disputes within contractual timeframes; provide timely, compliant, customer-centric communication. Maintain contract administration documentation for audit readiness; stay current with applicable federal regulations impacting rebates and chargebacks. Lead monthly and quarterly management reporting of contractual payments, dashboards and trends; support forecasting analyses and ad-hoc requests. Collaborate with stakeholders across functions to ensure transparency and cross-functional process alignment; support may include ownership of parts of cross-functional processes. Ensure all SOX controls are met and supported with documentation; participate in internal and external audits. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technological discipline required (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Accounting, Business, Statistics, Economics, Finance). 8+ years of US pharmaceutical industry-adjacent experience with increasing responsibilities in contract operations, contract management, financial analysis, rebate and chargeback validation, processing, and payments to commercial payers, GPOs and IDNs. 3+ years of leadership experience in managed care and related technology-centric knowledge. 3+ years hands-on experience with managed care contract administration technology (e.g., Model N, Validata, EDI, Helix). 3+ years experience reviewing and interpreting Managed Care Master Agreements and Rebate Agreements. Proven ability to work in a complex, customer-focused environment with tight deadlines; ability to build collaboration across teams and influence stakeholders; strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, organizational skills and attention to detail; intellectual curiosity and willingness to challenge the status quo. Solid understanding of Government Pricing calculations and bundled arrangements; strong business acumen and adaptability in ambiguity. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Preferred Qualifications
MBA, MPH or Master’s in a quantitative discipline. 8+ years in biotech/pharmaceuticals in a quantitative role in Managed Markets / Commercial / Finance / Investment Banking, or 3+ years in biopharma consulting post-MBA/PhD with leadership and quantitative decision support experience. Project management experience; US product launch experience (including cell and gene therapies); contract strategy implementation; value-based contract implementation. Experience supporting financial forecasting/analytics and/or commercial launch planning; knowledge of AI/ML tools, SQL or similar query tools, data visualization. Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $152,800 - $229,200. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Overtime may be applicable where required by law.
