Lead - Commissioning
for our
Houston, TX
office. Other locations considered. Provides high level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase activities to validate construction, integrity, operability, and the commissioning of building systems and facilities projects in the public and private sector. Responsibilities include planning, directing, coordinating, testing, commissioning and retro commissioning of building systems including HVAC, steam, compressed air, chilled water, plumbing, and automation. Substantiates reports, documentation, and decisions regarding equipment configuration, optimization studies, system functional testing, readiness testing, and the transition from the construction phase to full operations. Ensures responsibilities are delivered with quality that meets or exceeds industry standards for performance, reliability, safety, and security for building inhabitants. Responsibilities
Provide guidance with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site during construction phases, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project energy auditing actions, validation, and commissioning. Perform professional building and system commissioning work by researching and inspecting proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, layout, usage, and systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and installation or operating permits. Develop and oversee configuration, testing specifications, and readiness plans; prepare and update checklists/punch lists and cost estimates requiring coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients. Involved from project inception to completion for commissioning deliverables throughout project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, integration, installation, and operation. Develop and incorporate advanced technologies, monitoring, modeling techniques, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems per specifications; implement future-ready solutions with building systems operating standards. Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on design, installation, and integration issues relating to commissioning and retro commissioning of building systems including HVAC, steam, compressed air, chilled water, plumbing, and automation. Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, material and labor costs, technical calculations, permit applications, schematics, construction, compliance documentation, and regulatory/technical analysis memos. Coordinate, review and approve commissioning and operational plans, ensuring data integrity and compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations. Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross-sections, technical drawings, and spreadsheets for interpretation of complex data and findings. Maintain quality control standards, document logs of testing and verification, and procedures for accurate measurements, calculations, statistical analysis, and reporting. Assist with development and scoping of medium- to large-sized commissioning projects. Provide guidance and training to entry-level to mid-level commissioning staff. Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations explaining findings and recommendations to address design, installation, or operational issues or opportunities. Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data from site assessments; develop action plans for moderate- to high-level risk installation, equipment operations, and mitigation activities. Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner. Collaborate with professionals, engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians on public and privately-funded projects, as well as proposals and business development opportunities. Remain current in latest commissioning techniques and practices. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline or equivalent years of industry experience. 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in commissioning with prior building and systems commissioning experience. Proficient with building commissioning principles, practices, and application to project work-related issues. Extensive knowledge of smart building design. Experience with building planning, design, and installation management; active involvement in renovation and new design projects. Knowledge of building technology/system installation, construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements. Ability to perform technical computations, interpret plans and specifications, and compare to standards. Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on installation and design of equipment, facilities, and systems. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences. Self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment. Ability to work independently and mentor junior team members with QA/QC adherence. Proficiency in technical writing, office software, load calculations, design software (AutoCAD, Revit), and related tools. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills for data-driven decisions. Experience coordinating subcontractors to complete tasks safely and efficiently. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP health, safety, and harassment policies. Willingness to travel as project requirements dictate. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree is preferred. Essential or enhancing professional licensure/certification. Interest in LEED certification. Active participation in local professional practice organizations. About WSP
