Position Summary The
Assistant General Counsel
will assist the Legal Division in redefining the way Oklahomans access and engage with government services. The
Assistant General Counsel
reports to the General Counsel (GC) and provides legal advice to the agency and represents Service Oklahoma in both administrative and judicial proceedings. The
Assistant General Counsel
will support the General Counsel in providing strategic legal guidance and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Applicants must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently. The lawyer will support SOK leadership, as needed.

Position Responsibilities
Serves as first- and second-chair in administrative hearings
Analyzes, reviews, and determines impact of proposed legislation
Analyzes, researches, and reviews subpoenas and other requests under the Open Records Act and other privacy laws
Attends meetings as a representative of the legal division as assigned by the General Counsel
Serves as second- and first-chair in state and federal court proceedings involving the agency, including drafting of pleadings and discovery, motions hearings, depositions, and trial
Advises on questions of law or administrative policy involved in the operation of the agency and its contacts with industry, private or professional associations, state, federal, or local government, and the public
Provides legal advice and counsel regarding all aspects of legal issues facing the agency
Prepares legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, motions, petitions, and other legal documents
Conducts legal research and ensures compliance with federal and state laws
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to display good judgment
Detail-oriented
P0ssess strong oral and written communication skills
Demonstrate solid, efficient research and writing skills
Self-starter and independent, but also able to collaborate and work well with others
Education & Experience The minimum qualifications for this position are:
Graduation from an accredited law school;
Licensed to practice law in the State of Oklahoma;
Minimum two (2) years legal experience as a licensed attorney.
Preference May Be Given To Candidates Who Have
Experience in administrative law, contracts, litigation, and/or other areas of law involved in the operations of a state government agency
Governmental and administrative law practice experience is strongly preferred
Special Requirements
The schedule for this position may vary and require flexibility, including some early or late shifts, weekends, and occasional overtime, based on the needs of the agency.
This position may require occasional travel. The employee must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel. State vehicles may be available, but reliable transportation may be required for local travel.
This position works in a comfortable office setting with a computer for a large percentage of the workday.
