Structural Integrity Associates, Centennial, Colorado, United States
Vibration Engineering Consultant - Senior Associate
Description:
The Senior Associate is a recognized technical expert in mechanical system diagnostics, known for strong troubleshooting skills developed in high-performance environments (such as the U.S. Navy Nuclear Program). This role focuses on solving vibration and structural integrity challenges across nuclear and broader energy sectors. Ideal candidates will bring deep hands-on experience with rotating equipment and the ability to develop and adjust data acquisition plans in the field. They will use field data to drive root cause determinations and lead high-impact, client-facing problem-solving efforts. Primary Responsibilities: Troubleshoot rotating equipment and structural issues using in-field vibration testing and dynamic measurements Develop and adapt data acquisition plans on-site—selecting sensor types, placements, and measurement techniques based on observed behavior Interpret test data to support root cause investigations and recommend targeted solutions Manage client relationships by delivering trusted technical guidance and clear communication Lead projects from scope through delivery while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget alignment What Success Looks Like: High-quality field data leading to confident root cause conclusions Practical, data-backed recommendations to mitigate problems Positive client feedback and repeat engagements based on problem-solving credibility Contributions to improving team practices in diagnostics and instrumentation Required Skills/Qualifications: 15+ years troubleshooting mechanical systems through field diagnostics—especially in high-consequence or industrial environments Proven ability to adapt instrumentation plans in real time and extract meaning from complex datasets Familiarity with rotating machinery (pumps, turbines, motors) and structural behavior Hands-on experience with accelerometers, strain gauges, displacement sensors, and vibration analysis tools Navy Nuclear background or equivalent experience in high-reliability systems (e.g., shipboard propulsion, auxiliary systems) BS/MS in Mechanical, Structural or related Engineering (Navy Nuclear training may supplement) Willingness to travel (40%) for field instrumentation campaigns Eligible for Nuclear Unescorted Access Authorization Desired Skills/Qualifications: Certifications in vibration analysis (ISO Category III/IV), RCA, or related diagnostic methods preferred Experience with ASME/FFS codes, fatigue fracture mechanics, and flow-induced vibration Contributions to reliability improvement initiatives in high-reliability systems (nuclear, military, or critical infrastructure) Membership in technical organizations such as ASME, API, VI, or AFE Exposure to high-temperature sensors, wireless data acquisition, or advanced diagnostics Export Control Notice:
Certain positions may require access to information and technology subject to Export Administration Regulations. Hiring decisions must comply with these regulations and may limit consideration of foreign nationals from certain countries. More details at the DOE/NRC/ECR frameworks. About Us:
