Overview
Principal Process Development Scientist
– Senior Peptide Process Development role based in Boulder, CO. We are partnering with a global CDMO serving pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients, delivering integrated, end-to-end solutions from early-stage development to commercial supply. Supported by a network of fully integrated cGMP facilities across Europe and North America, the company excels in the development and manufacture of APIs, drug products, and lipid excipients. Their expertise covers Peptides, Oligonucleotides, Lipids & LNPs, Injectables, Highly Potent & Oncology, and Small Molecules. This on-site position in Boulder, CO will drive peptide process innovation from the laboratory bench through to commercial-scale production, designing, optimizing, and implementing robust, cost-efficient manufacturing strategies that support early development, regulatory submissions, technology transfer, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities
Lead cross-functional efforts to develop, scale, and optimize peptide manufacturing processes, ensuring delivery against cost, quality, safety, and throughput targets. Provide technical leadership in transferring processes from R&D to pilot and commercial facilities, acting as the subject-matter expert during scale-up and plant operations. Contribute to long-term strategic planning by delivering detailed project and process data to inform budget forecasts, resource planning, and technology investment decisions. Establish and refine experimental procedures and protocols to address complex chemical and technical challenges at both lab and production scale. Conduct applied research aimed at improving efficiency, yields, and robustness of peptide synthesis and purification methods. Serve as a recognized technical authority within a specific area of peptide chemistry, providing consultation and mentorship to peers and colleagues. Ensure full compliance with all internal SOPs, GDP practices, and regulatory requirements in the execution of laboratory and manufacturing activities. Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline, with at least 5 years of relevant industry experience (or equivalent education and work experience). Peptide experience required. Demonstrated expertise in solid-phase and solution-phase peptide synthesis and purification techniques. Practical knowledge of scale-up principles, plant operations, and unit operations relevant to peptide manufacturing. Strong track record of translating lab-scale methods into reliable, large-scale processes suitable for commercial supply.
