Location: DOROT is headquartered on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with a hybrid schedule. The Head of Impact Strategy will be expected to work in the office a minimum of 3 days per week and as business needs require.

The Opportunity The Head of Impact Strategy, a newly established position, will be the organization’s strategic leader for evaluation, shaping and advancing DOROT’s approach to assessing, learning from, and communicating about our impact, and strengthening DOROT’s competencies in data driven practices and analysis. The Head of Impact Strategy will build upon DOROT’s current evaluation efforts and serve as an internal expert resource to the Executive and Senior Management Teams and staff throughout the agency. The ideal candidate possesses expertise in community-based evaluation and impact measurement; talent in transforming research learnings into meaningful communication and storytelling opportunities for a variety of audiences including policymakers, funders, academics and the general public; and the skill to partner with and inspire staff to incorporate an evaluation mindset into their work in service to agency goals.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership - Drive the evaluation and program impact plans and processes needed to achieve excellence in evaluation and program impact practices and help create a culture of evaluation, learning, and continuous improvement.

Spearhead an organizational readiness assessment/discovery process to determine whether systems, structures, policies, and procedures are in place to support a robust evaluation and impact operation.

Elevate measurement practices and tools by aligning them with DOROT’s mission, values, and goals and by integrating standardized tools where relevant.

Implement evidence-informed and evidence-based practices where practical.

Establish and oversee partnerships with academic researchers that result in evaluation of DOROT’s program models and publishing in academic journals where applicable.

Stay abreast of and educate senior management and Directors about the latest research, measurement tools, and best practices around addressing social isolation and loneliness, intergenerational programming, and volunteer management.

Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership on impact-related decisions and organizational learning and steer the Program Impact Committee of the Board of Directors.

Seek out opportunities for and represent the organization in external partnerships, conferences, and thought leadership forums.

Evaluation Design & Implementation - Lead all processes and outcome measurement activities related to tracking and reporting on the progress of participant outcomes including overseeing all program evaluations and summarizing findings and learnings for use by both internal and external stakeholders.

Establish appropriate methodologies for data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Deploy a mixed-method approach including primary and secondary data collection/analysis, cross-sectional and longitudinal surveys, experimental and quasi-experimental study designs, qualitative research that includes interviews, focus groups, etc.

Partner with Senior Management and Program Directors to develop theories of change/logic models that clearly define impact goals and implement evaluation frameworks that support outcome measurement. This includes:

Training and coaching staff in outcome/performance goal setting.

Translating findings into strategic insights for Program Directors so that they can identify opportunities for evolution.

Providing guidance and/or tools to support evidence-informed decision making.

Design and implement workflows that ensure data integrity and quality.

Hire and supervise a Data Specialist and oversee impact and evaluation interns.

Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner cross-departmentally to routinely integrate DOROT’s evaluation and program impact learnings into our work and elevate DOROT’s role as a leader in aging services, intergenerational and social connection programs, and volunteerism. Collaborate with:

Program teams to produce impact-related materials.

Development and Marketing/Communications teams to highlight metrics, outcome themes, and stories that can be used to support fundraising, recruitment, cultivation, and other communication strategies; identify opportunities for relevant data visualizations.

The Information and Technology team to ensure effective and cohesive systems for data collection, management, and reporting.

External research and evaluation partners, such as academic institutions.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of experience in impact evaluation, monitoring and evaluation, or applied research in community-based settings, with more than 1 year of managerial experience required.

Advanced degree in public policy, social sciences, evaluation, or a related field

Some experience in social isolation, older adults, health outcomes, and intergenerational programming preferred

Expertise in mixed methods, utilization-focused human services program evaluation

Expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods, survey and assessment design, theories of change, literature reviews, and peer review articles in scientific journals

Exceptional communication and research writing skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas and findings into accessible written and oral reports with effective data visualization and presentations

Experience influencing senior leaders and working cross-functionally without direct authority

Demonstrated commitment to agency-wide collaboration and capacity building, and a desire to facilitate learning

Strong skills in Microsoft Office and survey/analytic software such as SAS, SPSS, R, M+
