Nature and scope Reporting to the Chief Philanthropy Officer, the Vice President of Institutional and Government Funding serves as a key member of the philanthropy leadership team, working alongside the Vice President of Individual Giving, Director of Development Operations, and Event Manager. This role provides strategic leadership to a development team that includes the Director of Donor Relations, Grant Manager, Director of Corporate Giving, and Director of Government Funding. The Vice President of Institutional and Government Funding is expected to be both a visionary strategist and a hands-on fundraiser.

Responsibilities

Build, manage, and strategically expand a portfolio of foundation, corporate, and government funders, identifying new prospects and deepening existing relationships.

Design and execute a comprehensive strategy to grow and diversify institutional revenue, ensuring the YMCA can expand its impact and serve more people across Metro Atlanta.

Play a pivotal role in advancing the YMCA’s mission by securing significant philanthropic support from corporations, foundations, and government agencies at the local, state, and federal levels.

Proactively identify and cultivate high-potential donors and grant-making entities through networking, relationship-building, and targeted outreach.

Lead the development of compelling written materials, including proposals, briefings, solicitation letters, and pledge agreements.

Oversee the grants management process, ensuring compliance, timely submissions, and consistent stewardship of institutional and government relationships.

Develop and implement tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies based on prospect research and giving capacity assessments.

Prepare high-quality presentation materials, talking points, and background research to support leadership in donor and funder meetings.

Ensure meaningful donor recognition, including acknowledgments, stewardship reports, and customized engagement opportunities.

Manage and maintain accurate records in the donor management system, including contact reports, proposal tracking, and follow-up actions.

Represent the YMCA at community events, presentations, and meetings to advance institutional partnerships and visibility.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, business, or related field

10+ years of progressive fundraising experience, including demonstrated success securing six- and seven-figure institutional gifts and grants.

6+ years of proven leadership experience managing high-performing development teams.

Exceptional relationship-building skills with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders, including corporate executives, foundation leaders, and public officials.

Strong strategic thinking, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience crafting compelling proposals and delivering persuasive presentations.

Knowledge of fundraising best practices, grant compliance, and government funding processes.

Proficiency with donor database systems and Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with data analytics tools a plus.

Commitment to the mission and values of the YMCA, with a passion for strengthening community.

Preferred Requirements

Master’s degree or higher in nonprofit management, public administration, business, or related field

Non-profit experience

Ergonomics Sitting, bending, stooping, standing; 15% repetitive keyboard work; seeing; verbal communications; lift up to 25 pounds.
