The SVP Lending is responsible for developing the vision and executing ORNL Federal Credit Union’s lending strategy from the current state to a re-imagined state with inspirational leadership. The role aims to deliver ORNL FCU’s winning proposition in support of the organization’s commitments to members and the community. Responsibilities include directing and coordinating all lending activities within the Credit Union, ensuring compliance with lending policy and all state and federal regulations, assisting in development of lending policy, managing lending activity to meet goals, and maintaining strong credit quality while monitoring concentration risk and the safety and soundness of the portfolio. A candidate with extensive expertise in consumer lending across direct and indirect channels is required. Deep understanding of mortgage and commercial lending, consumer loan operations, and mortgage loan servicing is expected. A strong grasp of the Credit Union Service Organization (CUSO) model is essential. The role requires developing and maintaining comprehensive procedures and policies to manage daily operations and strategic needs, and staying current on changes affecting the Credit Union with effective communication to ensure ongoing compliance. Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Provides strategic leadership and direction across all lending lines of business, including Commercial Lending, Mortgage Lending, and Consumer Lending. Drives loan growth, operational efficiency, and service excellence. Leads direct reports through clear goal setting, delegation, accountability, and consistent communication to align with the Credit Union’s mission. Coaches and develops the team and plans for future growth and succession. Manages a multi-million dollar expense budget including staffing, vendor relationships, expenses, and process improvements. Holds managers accountable for financial performance and collaborative expectations. Reviews monthly cost center reports, conducts ad-hoc analysis, and participates in budgeting. Sets goals, monitors work, and ensures compliance with departmental and organizational objectives. Optimizes loan portfolio performance using data analytics, maintains high credit quality by evaluating underwriting standards, and aligns with collections strategy. Ensures effective organization and communication within responsibilities. Responsible for loan policy, including periodic revisions and annual approvals. Updates lending policy guidelines to meet safety and soundness requirements. Develops policy compliance reporting and ensures robust internal controls across Mortgage, Consumer, and Commercial Lending, as well as Card Services. Ensures compliance with MLA, SCRA, Fair Lending, and applicable NCUA, state, and federal regulations. Serves as chairperson of loan committee meetings and the Allowance for Loan Loss Reviews Committee to address credit quality, loan approvals, reporting, and reserve adequacy. Serves on the ALCO Committee to monitor capital, liquidity, and profitability. Develops familiarity with loan production, prepayment speeds, growth and yield goals, Funds Transfer Pricing, profitability reporting, Concentration Risk, and related internal reporting. Presents loan product and pricing proposals and oversees credit insurance products. Ensures compliance with all lending regulations and coordinates with regulators, audits, and cross-functional teams. Communicates regulatory updates to the department and addresses findings promptly. Oversees end-to-end ORNL lending experience to support portfolio growth and member satisfaction. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Experience
Ten or more years’ experience in a financial institution with direct responsibility for lending functions required. Experience managing Consumer, Collections, Residential, and/or Business lending functions required. Prior experience managing or overseeing CUSOs is highly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of underwriting practices, loan and deposit products, loan promotions, and pipeline management required. Education
A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field required or equivalent combination of education, training, experience, or military experience. Advanced degree or coursework preferred. Lending School certifications strongly preferred. Other skills required
In-depth understanding of and ability to interpret regulations affecting lending programs. Extensive knowledge of consumer, commercial and real estate lending practices and procedures. Ability to read and interpret complex documents and respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. High proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization. Strong data analysis skills. Ability to prioritize demands from multiple projects.
