Overview

Assistant Attorney General (Auto-Theft) role with the Special Prosecutions Unit of the Criminal Justice Section, Office of the Colorado Attorney General. You will support complex, multi-jurisdictional auto-theft matters as a trusted legal advisor to multi-jurisdictional task forces, lead investigations, shape prosecutions from start to finish, and drive impactful change across the state. The ideal candidate is experienced and able to work independently from case initiation through prosecution. Responsibilities

Advise and assist local district attorneys and investigators in investigation and prosecution of complex, multi-jurisdictional felony offenses, with a focus on auto-theft matters and related organized crime/gang activity. Serve as a legal advisor to multi-jurisdictional auto-theft task forces; collaborate with law enforcement and other prosecutors across Colorado; utilize the Statewide Grand Jury as needed. Manage litigation across all phases, including pre-trial motions, discovery, voir dire, trial, post-trial, and appellate proceedings for major violent crimes. Travel within Colorado as required; participate in training for prosecutors and law enforcement on best practices in major auto-theft prosecutions; provide consultative and drafting support on significant legal issues and legislation. Lead and contribute to annual grant applications and monthly reporting for the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority (CATPA). Salary and Benefits

The Department of Law uses a wage progression compensation model. Salary is set commensurate with qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Positions may be filled at the Assistant Attorney General I (AAG I) or II (AAG II) level depending on experience; processing and ranges are determined accordingly. Licensed to practice law in Colorado or eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar; ability to submit proof prior to start date if eligible to waive. At least 3 years of prosecution trial experience, including felony experience in Colorado State District Court. Experience in private practice or other prosecution may substitute in part as appropriate. Exceptional litigation, writing, analytical, and communication skills; working knowledge of arrest, search and seizure laws and evidentiary procedures. Conditions of Employment and Travel
