Overview
Summary of position: Reporting to the Senior Director of Advancement for Foundation Relations, the Director of Foundation Relations is a key member of the Advancement team responsible for revenue generation through development and management of sustainable relationships with foundations, corporate charities, and other institutional funders. The Director of Foundation Relations will help develop a grant funding plan to resource unrestricted, restricted, and capital projects and support the organization’s strategic plan to increase advancement revenue. Core Responsibilities
Research potential funding sources and develop funding concept ideas. Write foundation, corporate, and other grant proposals. Steward and manage funder relationships and write grant reports. Oversee the grant spend-down process for all restricted grants in coordination with the organization’s finance team and program managers. Essential Functions
Build and Maintain Funder Relationships: Cultivate and manage relationships with foundations and other funders, prepare and submit well-researched, tailored proposals, and act as a key point of contact for funder communications. Prepare Competitive Proposals: Conduct pre-submission activities, including bidders’ conferences, inquiries, internal data gathering, and stakeholder coordination to strengthen applications. Identify and Cultivate Funding Opportunities: Research potential funders and funding streams to develop a robust pipeline; monitor funding trends to identify opportunities. Align Proposals with Organizational Goals: Collaborate with program directors and senior leadership to identify funding priorities and ensure proposals address operational and strategic needs with data-driven narratives. Foster Stewardship: Ensure funders receive recognition, updates, and reports to maintain strong relationships and encourage continued support; develop stewardship plans for key funders as needed. Manage Deadlines and Deliverables: Oversee a calendar of deadlines for proposals, reports, and related activities; track progress to ensure timely submissions. Coordinate Budgets and Compliance: Work with finance and program teams to develop accurate budgets and document expenses as required by funders. Oversee Restricted Funding Management: Monitor spend-down for restricted funds and coordinate with program and finance teams to address challenges. Contribute to Organizational Success: Support the Advancement team and cross-departmental initiatives as assigned. All other duties, as assigned. Education and Licensure
Bachelor’s Degree Skills & Qualifications
5-7 years of proven grant writing experience with complex grant submissions and revenue results. Exceptional writing skills and experience developing detailed, compliant budgets in collaboration with finance teams. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple high-priority projects and meet deadlines. Experience ensuring submissions meet funder requirements, including post-award reporting. Proficiency in researching funding opportunities and incorporating data-driven practices into proposals. Strong interpersonal skills to engage with internal teams and external funders. Proficiency in grant management software, online submission platforms, and Excel for budget preparation. Physical Requirements
Ability to respond to and follow through with requests quickly and professionally. Must be able to sit at a workstation for prolonged periods of time (as per OSHA standards). Must have ability to access different building locations, equipment, mailboxes, etc. Must have ability to access off-campus programs. Supervision
