Editorial and Production Manager

to join our dynamic Publishing team. This role oversees the Video Journal of Sports Medicine and Sports Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach, while also supporting other AOSSM publications as needed. This position is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented publishing professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This position is in the Rosemont, IL office. Roles and Responsibilities Editorial & Manuscript Review Manage the online manuscript/video review system, including maintaining accurate records of reviewers, authors, and papers submitted. Ensure authors submit all materials, including figures and images, in the prescribed format and with all required disclosures, permissions, and licenses. Facilitate timely review of manuscripts/video abstracts by monitoring reviewer turn-around, developing status reports, and assisting with questions/problems encountered. Work closely with Editors-in-Chief to resolve issues and maintain a strong pipeline of accepted manuscripts. Monitor author revisions to ensure they conform to editor and reviewer requests/suggestions or need further review. Follow-up with tardy authors to ensure timely completion. Ensure coordination of workflow and adherence to Journal and editorial policies when reviewing papers. Maintain confidentiality of all peer review activities.

Production & Publishing Coordinate accepted manuscripts with SAGE Publishing for production and issue assignment. Review proofs for accuracy and adherence to style guidelines (AMA style). Track issue content, page counts, and production schedules. Collaborate with editors and SAGE on ads, tables of contents, and other front matter.

Outreach & Other Responsibilities Communicate with authors, reviewers, editors, and affiliated societies. Support the Director of Publishing with board reports, meeting prep, calendars, and presentations. Monitor general enquiries sent to the Journal and direct them appropriately. Collaborate with AOSSM teams (marketing, education, membership) and publishing partners to grow journal reach. Assist with special projects such as webinars, podcasts, or themed issues. Other projects as assigned.

Candidate Requirements: A bachelors or master's degree in English, Publishing, Communications, Journalism or a related science field (preferred) 5-7 years' experience managing peer-reviewed medical or scientific journals Exceptional writing skills coupled with attention to detail in grammar, vocabulary, editing and proofreading Strong project management experience; nonprofit publishing experience is a plus Active involvement with professional publishing organizations (CSE, SSP, ISMTE) is desirable Familiarity with peer review systems (SageTrack/ScholarOne preferred) Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with physicians, researchers and partners Experience with Microsoft Office resources (Excel, PowerPoint) Ability to work as a team as well as independently Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask Detail-oriented approach with ability to be flexible and work under pressure to meet deadlines Familiarity with AMA style required

This position is a hybrid role based out of the AOSSM office in Rosemont, IL including two days per week in office. AOSSM offers a competitive salary and an exceptional comprehensive benefits package. Estimated travel currently includes overnight/out-of-state travel up to 5 percent annually, including up to five days to the AOSSM Annual Meeting in July.
