Chief Human Resources Officer

to lead the Human Resources function and serve as a culture ambassador for the organization. The CHRO will manage change, optimize the employee experience, and ensure an inclusive work environment aligned with the organization’s vision, mission, and values. The headquarters are in Arlington, Virginia, with a flexible-hybrid workplace for staff in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area and remote staff across the US. Overview

The CHRO is responsible for the day-to-day elements of human resources administration and talent management, leading a small HR team (two staff and a part-time consultant) and serving as the primary resource for hiring, onboarding, professional development, performance, employee relations, total rewards, and HRIS oversight. The CHRO reports to the President and CEO and is a member of the Executive Team. Responsibilities

Human Resources Administration: stay abreast of HR law/policy trends; collaborate with the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer to ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws; advise on employee relations issues; maintain and interpret the Employee Handbook; oversee the benefits portfolio (contracts, vendors, annual open enrollment); manage the total compensation program (merit process, spot bonuses, Incentive Pay) in partnership with the CFOO; ensure HRIS compliance and accurate employee records. Culture: act as culture ambassador, foster an inclusive environment, support staff to bring their full selves to work; co-sponsor internal culture leadership committees; lead the Employee Engagement Survey process and monitor employee engagement and retention. Talent Management: lead talent acquisition strategy, including executive recruitment; oversee HR Senior Manager in advising managers on recruitment; ensure diverse candidate outreach; ensure effective onboarding; support the internship program; coordinate with the CFOO on total compensation and staffing levels within financial constraints. Professional Development & Performance Management: establish career pathing, succession, and workforce planning; partner with HR Senior Manager and Learning Director to deliver development opportunities; advance performance management alignment and outcomes; oversee people manager training; lead IPO process and merit/incentive programs with CFOO. Qualifications or Skills Required

Four-year degree in Human Resources or 10 years of progressively responsible HR leadership experience. PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification preferred. Experience with employee engagement best practices and trends. Ability to build empathetic relationships and guide others through change. Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to confidentially consult with staff at all levels. Continuous process improvement mindset with a focus on impact. Experience managing an HRIS and working in a collaborative, enterprise-wide environment.
