Our Opportunity: Advertising is a critical component of the ecommerce ecosystem and provides a key revenue stream. Chewy’s Sponsored Ads team is looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to help launch various innovative ads-offerings for Chewy onsite and offsite sponsored ads. As a member of the Sponsored Advertising team, you’ll be part of the core technical team and influence technical strategy across product search and discovery, relevance and ranking, prediction, and auction of a large selection of sponsored ads offerings for onsite and offsite channels. You’ll be at the forefront of driving technology-driven business impact, applying machine learning and deep-learning models to influence selection, relevance, ranking, click-through prediction, auction dynamics, keyword recommendations, campaign optimization, ad channel performance, and data-science methodologies including, but not limited to, LLMs and generative AI. What you’ll do

You will deploy machine learning and data-science to simplify the shopping experience for pet-parents, maximize reach and discovery of Chewy vendors, and help create a win-win ecosystem.

Collaborate with Product and Engineering leaders to evolve solutions using applied science to improve selection, ranking, relevance, deal-offerings, click-through prediction models, dynamic bidding, and auction algorithms for Chewy onsite and offsite advertising solutions.

You will lead new models from ideation to experimentation and production delivery to improve Chewy product offerings and advance applied science applications.

Publish research papers in leading ML/AI/Advertising conferences addressing scale challenges with innovative modelling.

Establish high performance standards, implement applied-science best practices, and mentor junior scientists.

Deploy solutions at Chewy scale to improve overall customer engagement and value for pet parents.

Formalize proposals and communicate verbally and in writing to Chewy Senior Leadership and business customers with varying levels of technical knowledge, educating them about our research and sharing insights and recommendations.

What you'll need

An advanced degree (M.S., PhD, or equivalent) in Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science or related field, or at least 3 years of design experience for large-scale optimization and machine learning solutions.

Ability to understand and apply sophisticated mathematics and data-science methodologies.

Experience building distributed pipelines, tuning, optimizing, and evaluation.

Experience with Sponsored Ads or the advertising domain.

Experience with predictive models (time series and regression), linear programming, classification, search, ranking, or large-scale embeddings.

Ability to translate complex datasets and research into simple business recommendations.

Bonus

Experience in e-commerce or retail.

Prior experience in advertising systems is a plus.

Experience with ML services in AWS (SageMaker, Personalize) or equivalent.

Compensation & Benefits

Our salary range for a Machine Learning Engineer III position is

$146,500.00 - $234,500.00 . The specific salary offered may be influenced by factors including experience, education, and location. This position is eligible for 401k and equity grants.
