Job Description
The Network Engineer provides support for the campus' wired and wireless network infrastructure, including the coordination of infrastructure cabling installations and external services. This is accomplished by installing and maintaining network equipment and accessories; upgrading operating system software levels; coordinating repairs; and utilizing vendor contracts and maintenance agreements.
Additional responsibilities include monitoring network performance; completing cybersecurity initiative tasks; maintaining UPS performance for all network installation rooms; monitoring and responding to telecom environmental conditions; completing network-related tasks for special projects; and collaborating with other team members as needed.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorship for this position
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED
Required Experience
Three (3) years of experience with maintaining, configuring, troubleshooting, and upgrading\expanding a 1000+ node LAN and a 100+ node WLAN architecture, using network tools
Experience organizing network equipment racks, including optimal layout for cable management, airflow, power distribution, and equipment accessibility
Experience with routing, STP, and LACP protocols and core switch configurations
Experience with Cisco iOS command functions and EIGRP protocol, a Wi-Fi central configuration platform, a network monitoring system, and SNMP and Syslog
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
In-depth knowledge of routing between networks to support high-availability core switches
Knowledge of structured cabling systems and vendor coordination for Category 6 and single mode fiber cabling installation, upgrades, and repair
Familiarity with tools and protocols for diagnosing issues and maintaining uptime including packet analysis
Ability to collaborate with Cybersecurity, Server, Telecom, and Endpoint team members
Preferred Qualifications
· CCNA certification
· Security+ certification
· Knowledge of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and cybersecurity principles, along with scripting languages
· Experience with ArubaOS/Aruba Central, SolarWinds, Windows Server OS, PowerShell, and JSON
Hours per Week
40 - 100%
General Weekly Work Schedule
Typical schedule would include an 8 hour shift Monday through Fridays during college business hours of 7:30AM to 5:30PM. Varying weekend and off hours work does occur occasionally.
Schedule will be finalized with final candidate.
