Job Overview Looking to bring your optometry experience into a clinical setting? We at Fairview Health Services are looking for Optometric Assistant to work out of our Fridley Clinic! This position will also travel to our Andover, and Brooklyn Park locations. This is a approved for 70.4 hours! Assist Optometrist in the provision of quality patient care. Participates in the smooth and efficient operation of the department. Assists in the care, treatment, and education of optometry patients. Provides services to patients, staff, and others in a respectful and courteous manner. Works collaboratively with appropriate staff to ensure effective services and exercises prudent stewardship of financial and other resources. Job Expectations: Obtains a complete medical and ophthalmic history obtains patient history and charts procedures for medical records; performs and records visual acuities; reads old lens in lensometer and documents. Performs basic screening of muscles, pupils, and confrontational fields. Performs retinal imaging, OCT and visual fields testing as needed. Uses Automated refractor and I-Care or tonopen to measure pressure. Autoclaves instruments for procedures. Contact lens ordering and dispensing: orders contact lenses per prescription; educates patients on the wear and care of contact lenses; inspects received contact lenses for dispensing Documentation and coding for diagnosis and procedures for insurance information: codes all charts for procedures and diagnosis; handles insurance information and forms as needed. Telephone calls and messages for dept: assists patients with scheduling appointments; answers telephone messages when able; screens all messages before they are given to the optometrist. Clinical area: stocks and cleans procedure and exam rooms; orders supplies of less than $200.00 as needed; uses and maintains equipment and supplies appropriately. Willingness to learn new procedures Knowledgeable use of medical terminology and instruments used by optometry Works well with patients and fellow staff members Organization Expectations, as applicable: Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making. Communicates in a respective manner. Ensures a safe, secure environment. Individualizes plan of care to meet patient needs. Modifies clinical interventions based on population served. Provides patient education based on as assessment of learning needs of patient/care giver. Fulfills all organizational requirements. Completes all required learning relevant to the role. Complies with and maintains knowledge of all relevant laws, regulation, policies, procedures and standards. Fosters a culture of improvement, efficiency and innovative thinking.
