One of the largest global insurance brokers is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join their Enterprise Data & Analytics Infrastructure team. This is a full-time hybrid role based in Chicago, IL. The company is modernizing its data ecosystem with Google Cloud Platform and Terraform, making it a very ideal opportunity for an engineer passionate about cloud-native solutions and large-scale enterprise data initiatives.
This role is more than just pipelines and queries-it's about leading transformation. You'll help decommission legacy systems, establish modern CI/CD practices, and build data products that fuel analytics and machine learning initiatives. This opportunity is exciting because you will play a critical role in shaping a cloud-first environment at massive enterprise scale, while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to innovation across the organization. Required Skills & Experience • 7-15 years of progressive experience in data engineering or analytics infrastructure • Strong hands-on expertise with Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Dataform, Cloud Composer, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Cloud Storage) • Proficiency with Terraform for IaC across GCP environments • Advanced SQL, star/snowflake schema modeling, and ELT pipeline development • Experience with Python and frameworks like DBT • Strong understanding of CI/CD practices (Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, Terraform Cloud) • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences Desired Skills & Experience • Familiarity with Vertex AI, Cloud Notebooks, or other ML platforms • Experience with visualization tools (Looker, Looker Studio, or similar) • Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and lineage (Dataplex) • Relevant certifications (Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, Cloud Architect, Terraform Associate) • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field What You Will Be Doing Tech Breakdown • 80% GCP Data Engineering (BigQuery, Dataform, Composer, etc.) • 20% Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CI/CD, Cloud Build)
Daily Responsibilities • 70% Hands-On Engineering (pipelines, data modeling, performance tuning) • 20% Team Collaboration (Agile/Scrum, cross-functional projects) • 10% Mentorship & Leadership (guiding juniors, documentation, reviews) The Offer • Competitive base salary • Bonus eligible
