Vice President of Donor Relations & Development

Vice President of Donor Relations & Development is a seasoned leader who has an extensive track recording of creating and leading successful fundraising campaigns and initiatives for non-profit organizations. The position will develop a comprehensive philanthropic strategic plan to build, maintain, and support a diverse, multi-channel, and sustainable donor network. This leader will introduce innovative strategies that will reshape and expand SAY’s donor base to include individual , corporate, foundation, and public giving.
The VP is charged with raising substantial philanthropic capital, with an emphasis on unrestricted capital. This leader is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the agency’s visibility in regional, state and national non-profit networks. This position will identify opportunities for optimization and drive innovation within the unit and across the agency. This position reports to the CEO and oversees all philanthropy-based initiatives, inclusive of grant writing, working closely with the executive team and board of directors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Donor Engagement & Cultivation – 65%
In collaboration with the CEO, create the multi-year Philanthropic Strategic Plan.
Implement and manage the Philanthropic Strategic Plan and adjust for strategic changes based on deliverables and outcomes achieved.
Capacity building of prospective donors to increase major donor’s base in regional, state and national markets.
Develop and lead multi-channel strategies and campaigns to generate new and sustainable giving.
Leads agency efforts to cultivate and engage stewardship programs to include six-figure gifts and major donors at mid-level and above for gifts of $20,000 or greater.
Strengthen and expand foundation partnerships, collaborate with AVP Philanthropy to secure sustainable donor base and gifts up to $20,000.
Develop and provide for annual giving and adjust methods based on a balance of new opportunities and connections, donor base size, return on investment, and staff, board, and volunteer resources.
Research and actively pursue high value potential donors, foundations and other unique development opportunities that align with targeted goals.
Oversee the prospecting and stewarding of major donors for the fundraising team (CEO, board members, and unit Vice Presidents). This includes tracking targets and activity for ongoing engagement.
Exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills to foster cohesion and collaboration with the Executive Team, across various management teams, and unit staff.
Embrace organizational change by exhibiting forward thinking to promote new innovative fundraising models that align with SAY’s strategic plan goals.
Champion organizational optimization initiatives that will increase unit efficiency, reduce costs and or promote cross-collaborative opportunities that align with strategic plan goals.
Ensure the direction and contribution of the Donor Relations & Development unit is consistent with SAY’s strategic plan, organizational growth, and sustainability goal.
Network on behalf of SAY San Diego to promote the organization and connect and/or support other fundraising team members champion increased donor participation, seek out new major donors, and expand the base of resource support for SAY San Diego.
Manage 4-8 fundraising events and in-kind donations annually, including donor communications, stewardship, tracking, and marketing.
Communications – 10%
Guide development of SAY’s communication plan, with the primary objective of routinely sharing the agency’s vision, mission, and impact through multiple channels and tailored to various segments of SAY stakeholders.
Coordinate training efforts that cultivate effective donor relationships, working with Executive Team, board members, and other staff identified.
Administrative – 25%
Effectively manage department budget to include fundraising campaigns, staffing and operational costs.
Produce quarterly and annual giving reports to the executive team and board on progress with Philanthropic Strategic Plan.
Regularly meet with unit VPs to understand funding needs, opportunities and goals
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required in Marketing, Communications, Non-Profit Management or another relevant field.
Over 10 years of professional experience and track record creating and leading successful fundraising campaigns for non-profit organizations; Five years at the senior management level.
Have an exceptional network of philanthropic donors, socially generous corporations, and key decision-makers at foundations.
Demonstrated successful experience in out-come driven program design and fundraising success, specifically with unrestricted revenue, government, foundations, and large individual gifts.
Familiarity with and understanding of donors interested in vulnerable youth and family populations.
Creative thinker, innovative and strategic leadership to develop and implement agency-level philanthropy plans and lead teams for desired outcomes.
Experience supervising and mentoring exempt-level staff and board members
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong command in formal and informal settings.
Excellent interpersonal and persuasive skills; strong networking abilities aimed to meet philanthropic objectives.
Ability to develop and translate strategies into tangible planned outcomes.
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills and an outgoing approach.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and competing priorities simultaneously.
Ability to work with diverse personalities, roles, styles and circumstances.
Solid proficiency with Razors Edge CRM software is required.
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365: Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
