Overview Staff Attorney to provide expert legal services to unaccompanied children needing legal representation through zealous direct representation as well as pro bono facilitation. Supervisory duties for Senior Paralegals, Paralegals, interns, and/or other non-attorney staff may be included. Reports to the Managing Attorney, San Francisco-Released. This position is contingent upon continued funding.

Building on its extensive programming, KIND expands in the Americas and Europe to address the legal and mental health needs of this population, build partnerships, train and strengthen capacity with governments, NGOs, and the private sector, and advocate for systemic reforms to advance the rights of these children. Essential Functions
Provide mentoring to KIND pro bono attorneys and direct legal representation to KIND clients. Provide robust consultation and technical assistance to pro bono attorneys who have accepted a KIND case. Perform legal research, develop case strategy, conduct client interviews, appear before immigration and/or state courts or agencies, and draft and file court pleadings and applications for benefits. Supervise interns and/or other non-attorney staff as needed, including onboarding, training, supervision, and quality assurance of filings. Place cases with pro bono attorneys and build relationships with the pro bono community. Help develop pro bono training resources and local curricula; with supervision, present trainings to pro bono attorneys and community groups. Contribute to office functioning and participate in field office and KIND-wide calls, committees, and events. Ensure timely, accurate entry of case data into KIND’s case management systems. Represent KIND at local coalitions, courts, and agencies. Qualifications And Requirements
J.D. and admitted to the local state bar. Fluent in English and Spanish (required for direct communication with children and caregivers). Minimum 1 year of experience practicing immigration law, including humanitarian claims such as asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, U visas, and T visas. Minimum 1 year of experience working with children, preferably immigrant and refugee children. Experience working with law firm attorneys and/or legal volunteers if most caseload involves pro bono work. Strong communication skills in English and Spanish (written and oral). Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work collaboratively, multitask, and manage priorities in a dynamic environment.
