Overview Project-Program Director/Deputy Division Leader (Project-Program Director 5) role at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This position is located in Carlsbad, NM and oversees a technically diverse portfolio within LANL\'s Repository Science and Operations (RSO) Division, supporting the Department of Energy (DOE) Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) and the national transuranic (TRU) waste program. The Division serves as the senior technical advisor to CBFO, delivering solutions to ensure safe, compliant disposal of TRU waste at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP).

What You Will Do As Deputy Division Leader of RSO, you will: Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for a broad program, including actinide testing campaigns and TRU-waste inventory efforts. Support EPA re-certification of WIPP and ensure regulatory compliance through chemical and radiological characterization. Lead and mentor staff, develop long-term strategies to sustain mission success, and recruit, retain, and develop top-tier employees. Collaborate with the Division Leader and other LANL leadership on senior-level decision making and RSO\'s strategic direction. This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication, and a commitment to mission-critical national-security work. What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements: Leadership:

Demonstrated experience leading large, technically focused organizations with responsibility for personnel and budget management. Proven track record in guiding strategic and operational planning, delivering complex projects, and developing staff. Technical Experience:

Proven record of effective technical leadership with emphasis on strategic/tactical planning, team building, program development, and applying employee development tools. Knowledge of federal/state environmental and waste management regulations, and experience integrating safety, security, quality, configuration management, and conduct of operations. Strong technical writing skills. Customer Focus:

Experience in conducting high-level research, evaluating solutions, and advising on complex problems affecting programs and operations. Commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. Communication:

Ability to engage with staff, LANL organizations, senior management, external clients (including DOE EM and NNSA), regulators, industry partners, and stakeholders. Ability to influence, build consensus, and maintain trust. Education:

Bachelor\'s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of 12 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Desired Qualifications: Experience with WIPP compliance documentation (WAC, TRAMPAC, WAP) and involvement in the WIPP recertification process. Educational or professional background in chemistry, engineering, or related scientific discipline with a foundation in laboratory operations and project management in laboratory environments. Experience interfacing with DOE and site contractors on TRU waste treatment, packaging, characterization, acceptable knowledge, transportation, and inventory management. Strong foundation in environmental and regulatory compliance for TRU waste activities, including treatment, packaging, characterization, acceptable knowledge, and transportation. Working knowledge of complex waste inventory management and shipping processes at TRU waste generator sites across the DOE complex. Work Location The work location is onsite in

Carlsbad, New Mexico . The RSO Division in Carlsbad is part of the Associate Directorate for Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality (ALDESHQ) at LANL. All work locations are at management\'s discretion. Position Commitment Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible to apply for posted jobs.
