Position Summary Are you interested in working for UDRI, a national leader in scientific and engineering research, serving government, industry and nonprofit customers? We are seeking a project engineer to provide technical leadership and direct technical contribution for multiple projects related to aircraft, ground support equipment, and vehicle sustaining engineering. Under the guidance of a senior engineer, this role will support and lead research, evaluation, reverse engineering, design, and test/validation of hardware for aircraft, support equipment, and vehicles.

The ideal candidate will be self-driven, an excellent communicator, have a strong background in project engineering in defense or commercial spaces. The position will support multiple clients, primarily government.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership and direct technical contribution for multiple projects related to aircraft, ground support equipment, and vehicle sustaining engineering.

Support and lead research, evaluation, reverse engineering, design, and test/validation of hardware for aircraft, support equipment, and vehicles, under the guidance of a senior engineer.

Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team and communicate effectively with clients.

Minimum Qualifications R1 Minimum Qualifications

BS in Engineering (Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, Systems, or related technical field)

Understanding of aircraft and/or complex systems design and operation

Ability to create, read and interpret models, technical drawings, schematics, and computer generated reports

Proficient in 3D CAD modeling software

Ability to follow instructions and demonstrate attention to detail

Strong problem solving skills

Successful collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team

Effective written communication skills

Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen

R2 Minimum Qualifications

BS in Engineering (Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, Systems, or related technical field)

Understanding of aircraft and/or complex systems design and operation

A minimum of 5 years' experience in related engineering position

Ability to create, read and interpret models, technical drawings, schematics, and computer generated reports

Proficient in 3D CAD modeling software

Ability to follow instructions and demonstrate attention to detail

Strong problem solving skills

Demonstrated successful collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team

Demonstrated customer focus and record of customer satisfaction

Effective written communication skills

Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications R1 Preferred Qualifications

Self-motivated & organized with ability to work with minimal supervision

Effective interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated at all levels of an organization

Demonstrated problem solving and time management skills

Demonstrated experience in any or all of the following:

Model based system engineering (MBSE)

Applying Cameo or similar MBSE-enabling toolset

Developing solutions architectures

Requirements derivation, flow down, & management

Familiar with various manufacturing processes such as casting, NC machining, forging, heat treat and additive manufacturing for metals and/or plastics.

R2 Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree (aerospace, mechanical, materials, or related engineering field)

Self-motivated & organized with ability to work with minimal supervision

Effective interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated at all levels of an organization

Demonstrated problem solving and time management skills

3+ years engineering/technical project management experience

3+ years engineering/technical experience in aircraft, vehicles, or support equipment

3+ years of experience in analysis of components in relation to mechanical systems, including FEA for structural, fatigue, thermal, vibration, and acoustics

3+ years engineering/technical product design experience

2+ years creating and executing component and system level validation and qualification test plans

2+ years training/mentoring/managing entry level engineers or technical student hires

2+ years supporting Air Force organizations in sustaining or acquisition engineering

Familiar with various manufacturing processes such as casting, NC machining, forging, heat treat and additive manufacturing for metals and/or plastics.
