We are seeking an experienced
Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)
for a major project at
Naval Submarine Base (NSB) Kings Bay, Georgia . The SSHO is responsible for implementing and enforcing the project Accident Prevention Plan (APP), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and ensuring compliance with
NAVFAC SE ,
OSHA , and
EM 385-1-1
requirements.
This role requires prior experience on federal or military construction projects, ideally in
restricted areas at submarine bases or equivalent secure facilities .
A current or active Secret Security Clearance is highly desired. Location:
Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the
on-site safety authority
for all construction activities in accordance with NAVFAC SE and EM 385-1-1 requirements. Develop, implement, and maintain the
Accident Prevention Plan (APP)
and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs). Conduct daily safety inspections and enforce corrective measures for unsafe conditions or non-compliance. Lead daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and orientation sessions for all project personnel. Review and enforce subcontractor safety plans and ensure alignment with project and NAVFAC requirements. Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses; document findings and implement corrective actions. Maintain complete safety documentation and reports for submission to NAVFAC and internal stakeholders. Ensure compliance with
SWFLANT badging and access requirements
for all personnel. Required Criteria for Consideration:
All uncleared personnel entering restricted areas are subject to additional NCIC checks. The following are
disqualifying criteria
for access to the project: Any federal or state felony conviction, including general court-martial convictions, regardless of date. Any federal or state misdemeanor conviction for a violent offense (weapons/firearms, assault, battery, sexual assault/abuse, domestic violence, robbery, burglary, arson, theft, etc.), regardless of date. Any pending adjudication for federal, state, or local misdemeanor or felony arrests/charges. Two or more separate non-violent misdemeanor convictions within the last 24 months. Any discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces that is not
honorable
or
general under honorable conditions .
Candidates must be able to meet these requirements for access to restricted areas at NSB Kings Bay.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered). 5+ years of construction safety experience
on federal or military projects. Prior experience working in
restricted access facilities (submarine bases or equivalent)
strongly preferred. Completion of the
NAVFAC/USACE EM 385-1-1 40-hour training
(required). Completion of the
OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety course
(required). CPR/First Aid certification (must be current). CSP, CHST, or other professional safety credential preferred. Active or previously held
Secret clearance
(preferred). Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
