Job DescriptionPittsburg State University is accepting applications for a Painter in Facility Operations. The primary function of the Painter is to apply paints, stains, and other materials to walls, ceilings, furniture, and equipment in addition to irregular surfaces such as streets, parking lots and athletic play areas. Duties and Responsibilities40% - Performs skilled painting, finishing, and varnishing; mixes and matches colors and shades of paint; applies paint with rollers, brushes, or spray gun; stains and seals wood floors; re-coats wood floors; finishes and varnishes paneling, cabinets, furniture, and walls; paints exterior masonry of buildings; stripes crosswalks and paints curbs; paints walls, floors, ceilings, sheetrock, bleachers, building exteriors, etc.; prepares surfaces to be painted or varnished; scrapes rust and loose paint; sands; fills holes; dusts surfaces; uses liquid remover on old paint and varnish; sets up ladders and/or scaffolding; lays down drop cloths and tarps; removes old paint spots. Additional standards for this category include: sets up scaffold in such a way as to insure safety of self and others; uses correct paint or varnish for each job; covers floors or equipment and furniture with drop cloths to cut down on clean up time; always takes enough drop cloths and material to the job to properly cover floors and furniture to avoid excess clean up time and trips to the paint shop; recognizes that a properly prepared surface and the correct paint or varnish will make a job last longer and result in a saving of man hours. 25% - Performs dry walling of sheetrock to include surface preparation, taping, mudding, and sanding; applies protective coatings on roofs; glazes and putties windows and glass doors; caulks doors and windows; sands wood floors; chips steel on water towers and air conditioning stands. Checks windows for glazing, removes all loose putty, nails back or replaces loose boards, and makes minor repairs; performs other miscellaneous carpentry repairs. 20% - Removes old plaster and re-plasters walls and ceilings; makes minor repairs on stucco walls; re-papers walls and installs wall coverings and decorative work; blows on textured ceilings; repairs cement walls and foundations; performs preparatory work; operates texture machine; performs minor cement repair. 10% - Performs mechanical repairs, maintenance, and adjustments on equipment such as stripers, spray guns, water blaster, sand blaster, sanding machines, etc.; operates forklift and equipment listed in previous sentence; cleans equipment after each use. 5% - Maintains shop equipment, tools, and materials; requisitions materials from storeroom; cleans shop area; drives vehicle to and from job site; moves materials to job site; performs other tasks as necessary for smooth plant operations. Additional standards for this category include: all materials, tools, and vehicles kept secured; no loss of tools, equipment, or keys; no breakdowns due to poor maintenance of equipment; realize that a job can be done much faster and better when your tools and equipment are kept in good repair. Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Required Education and Experience at Hire - High school diploma or equivalent. Three years of related painting experience.
