Compensation: $68,640-$85,000

For over 75 years, the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Leandro (BGCSL) has proudly served the San Leandro and San Lorenzo community as the primary provider of youth services. Our unwavering mission is to inspire youth—especially those who need us most—to achieve their full potential in a safe, positive, and engaging environment. We offer a wide range of programs to youth ages 4 to 18 years old, including after-school programming, school break day camps, and summer camps. Position Overview

The Program Manager leads high-quality after-school programming that empowers youth, supports families, and aligns with A.S.E.S. and ELOP standards. This role oversees program operations, staff supervision, and partnerships with schools and community organizations to create a safe, engaging, and outcome-driven environment. Responsible for staff development, program evaluation, and resource management, the Program Manager ensures that youth receive enriching experiences that prepare them for success. By fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and strong community engagement, this role plays a key part in advancing BGCSL’s mission to inspire and empower all young people to reach their full potential.

Essential Functions

  • Leadership & Program Oversight: Manage after-school site programs, ensuring compliance with A.S.E.S./ELOP standards and a safe, outcome-driven environment.
  • Staff Supervision & Development: Lead Kinder Care Coordinator and Youth Development Professionals, guiding supervision, enrichment programming, and parent engagement.
  • Training & Professional Growth: Plan and participate in meetings, trainings, and events to support staff development and best practices.
  • Program Evaluation & Continuous Improvement: Use CRM (MyClubHub) data, compile monthly reports, and conduct site observations to assess effectiveness and drive improvements.
  • Accountability & Performance Management: Supervise staff, ensure goals, administer corrective actions, and coordinate with HR on issues.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Oversee site operations within budget, coordinate with school on safety/cleanliness, assist with grant reporting and sustainability.
  • Community & School Partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with school staff, parents, and community organizations.
  • Program Promotion & Outreach: Represent BGCSL, promote membership, and maintain external communications to strengthen engagement.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, social work, or related field OR equivalent youth development and program management experience.
  • Minimum 2 years in after-school programming, youth development, or related field.
  • At least 1 year in staff supervision, coaching, and leadership.
  • Strong understanding of child safety, behavior management, and youth engagement strategies.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with school admins, parents, and community partners.
  • Strong organizational skills with multitasking, problem-solving, and adaptability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and data management systems (CRM/MyClubHub).
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Ability to pass a background check and meet state requirements for working with youth.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.

Preferred

  • 3+ years in youth development, after-school programs, or nonprofit management.
  • Experience with grant-funded programs and A.S.E.S./ELOP compliance.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or another community language.
  • Experience with budget management and resource allocation.
  • Training in trauma-informed care and social-emotional learning (SEL).
  • Experience with restorative practices and positive behavior interventions.
  • Experience leading professional development for staff.
  • Knowledge of community resources and partnership-building with schools and local organizations.

Work Environment

The Program Manager will work primarily in a school-based site for BGCSL. Occasional flexibility may be needed for events or deadlines. The work environment may include standing, walking, sitting, dexterity, climbing or bending, talking or hearing, exposure to weather, and potential exposure to communicable diseases. The noise level may vary. Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
