Overview
Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) in the data platform area at TikTok. You will manage services and infrastructures in one of the world\'s largest data platforms that directly supports the TikTok app. You\'ll ensure data, services, and infrastructures are reliable, fault-tolerant, efficiently scalable and cost-effective. This role follows a hybrid work schedule requiring in-office presence 3 days a week, or as directed by the manager. The specific requirements may change at any time.
Responsibilities
- Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of service, from inception and design, through deployment, operation and refinement
- Ensure reliable, fault-tolerant, efficiently scalable and cost-effective data, services and infrastructure
- Design and maintain high-availability architecture for Clickhouse & Doris, including replication, sharding, and failover mechanisms
- Monitor and optimize Clickhouse & Doris clusters for low-latency, high-throughput query performance
- Troubleshoot slow queries, resource contention, and performance bottlenecks in distributed storage engines
- Plan and execute cluster scaling strategies to handle data growth
- Maintain clear runbooks, SOPs, and practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems
- Design and implement reliable, scalable, robust and extensible big data systems that support core products and business
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field involving software or systems engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience writing code in Java, Go, Python or a similar language
- Experience with algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design
- Hands-on experience managing Clickhouse and/or Apache Doris clusters in production environments
- Knowledge of columnar storage, data compression, and query execution engines
- Experience managing distributed OLAP databases with sharding, replication, and high availability setups
- Hands-on experience with observability tools such as Prometheus & Grafana
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with schema evolution, data compression strategies, and partition pruning to optimize storage and query performance
- Familiarity with Clickhouse & Doris integrations with Kafka, Flink and Hive
- Familiarity with Zookeeper-based coordination and leader election mechanisms in Clickhouse/Doris
- Familiarity with running production-grade services at scale and understanding cloud-native technologies, networking & storage management
- Experience developing tools and APIs to reduce human interaction with systems and applications
- Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems (Hadoop, MapReduce, Hive, Spark, Metastore, Presto, Flume, Kafka, Flink or comparable solutions) is a plus
- Systematic problem-solving approach with effective communication and drive
