Overview


We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Design – Activewear to lead the creative direction and product design strategy for our branded and private label activewear division. This hands-on leadership role will be responsible for managing the entire creative process—from initial concept through to production—ensuring innovative, trend-forward, and on-brand collections that deliver on performance, style, quality, and profitability. The Director will oversee and mentor the design team while collaborating cross-functionally with product development, sourcing, sales, and production to bring market-ready collections to life.

Overview



  • Lead the creative vision and seasonal design strategy for the activewear category across all channels and labels (branded and private label).

  • Manage and mentor a team of designers, CAD artists, and technical staff, fostering creativity, accountability, and alignment with brand DNA.

  • Oversee the design and development process from concept through to final sample approval, ensuring timely and cost-effective execution.

  • Monitor market, trend, consumer, and competitor insights to create compelling collections that align with brand and business objectives.

  • Build seasonal color palettes, trend boards, and line plans that reflect innovation in both fashion and performance.

  • Collaborate closely with sourcing and product development teams to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and meet margin goals.

  • Partner with factories, vendors, and mills to support development, material sourcing, and production hand-offs.

  • Attend fittings, review samples, and ensure all design elements meet brand and quality standards across size ranges.

  • Present seasonal concepts and product lines to internal stakeholders and retail partners; support customer presentations as needed.

  • Manage design department budgets including sampling, materials, T&E, and freelance resources.

  • Ensure all timelines and milestone deadlines are met across product calendars.



Qualifications / Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field.

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in activewear or performance apparel design, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

  • Expert knowledge of garment construction, fabrications, performance textiles, and fit for activewear.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, PLM systems, and CAD software.

  • Proven success developing both branded and private label product lines.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional, and deadline-driven environment.

  • Strategic thinker with a strong aesthetic point of view and commercial mindset.

  • Experience working with overseas vendors and managing global product development timelines.

  • This onsite role requires 5 days in our Secaucus, NJ office.



Pay rate: $150,000/yr - $180,000/yr.
