Overview

ASM Global, The Moscone Center in San Francisco is seeking a Maintenance Engineer (OnSite). This role is responsible for all aspects of maintenance in the facility and assists the Chief Engineer and Assistant Chief Engineers in maintaining and improving operating equipment, ensuring a smooth working environment and operation between clients and in-house departments.

Hourly rate: $68.14

Essential duties & responsibilities

  • Operating all heating and ventilating equipment, engines, turbines, motors, combustion engines, pumps, air compressors, ice and refrigerating machines, air conditioning units, fans, siphons, as well as automatic and power-oiling pumps and engines.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of boilers, heaters, pumps, valves, appurtenances and lines used in the distribution of steam and heated or processed water.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of pumps handling brines or other secondary refrigerating liquids, with associated valves and lines.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of air compressors and distribution lines with valves and air control devices.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of natural and manufactured gas distribution lines, including valves and control devices.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of water filters, softeners, piping and pumps used in water distribution, including sinks, toilets, supply lines, drains, sprinkler systems and related control devices.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of electrical motors and engines powering pumps, compressors and fans.
  • Maintenance of elevators, man lifts, escalators and hoist ways, except where serviced by specialized contractors.
  • All electrical work and repair.
  • Use of tools necessary to fulfill duties, including equipment required to operate, maintain and repair listed systems.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of fuel oil systems including pumps, valves, lines and controls.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of building automation systems for HVAC, including consoles, data panels, remote sensors and indicating devices.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of mail conveyor systems (excluding tenant-owned systems).
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of sanitary sewer systems, sump pumps, basins, water closets, urinals and piping.
  • Maintenance and repair of trash compactors, including electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Maintenance and repair of all kitchen equipment (excluding tenant-owned equipment).
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of locks, keys and locksmith-related duties.
  • Maintenance, repair and installation of carpentry work and related carpentry duties.
  • Operation, repair and maintenance of energy systems, life safety systems, environmental controls, safe locks, telecommunications and other computerized emergency systems, within regulatory or contract constraints.
  • Any other work typically performed by maintenance engineers.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge: Ability to listen and follow instructions; completion of an approved apprenticeship program; appropriate certification/licensing within field is a plus; solid knowledge of all phases of building, equipment, operations and maintenance; high school diploma/GED required.
  • Experience: Minimum five years experience in operating a large public assembly, hotel, hospital or other commercial facility; member in good standing of Stationary Engineers Local 39.
  • Skills/Aptitude: Ability to problem solve, plan and stay organized; ability to read blueprints and construction specifications; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact with diverse people and work well as part of a team.

Physical Demands & Environment

  • Work requires extensive walking, standing, bending, lifting, reaching, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
  • Exposure to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold and heat, noise and atmospheric conditions.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
  • Flexible schedule including nights and weekends; subject to 24-hour call in case of emergency.
