About the Role
We are seeking a high-impact Purchasing Manager to drive sourcing strategy and supplier performance for production-critical materials and components. This role is pivotal in ensuring manufacturing continuity, cost competitiveness, and operational agility across our supply chain. The Purchasing Manager would be expected to lead supplier engagement, influence product and process design decisions, and deliver measurable value through sourcing excellence.
Responsibilities
The Purchasing Manager position is part of the Supply Chain Team. This is a full-time, salary exempt position. This position will require a broad range of responsibilities to ensure success. Some examples of these responsibilities are listed below (but are not limited to the following):
- Own and execute end-to-end sourcing strategies for direct materials, components, and services that directly support production, aligning procurement activities with operational, quality, and financial objectives.
- Partner closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations Planning, and Quality to anticipate demand, mitigate supply risk, and ensure continuity of supply at the right cost and quality.
- Lead commercial negotiations , secure optimal terms (pricing, lead time, service levels, liability), and enforce performance-based agreements.
- Proactively assess global markets , commodity trends, and geopolitical factors to optimize sourcing strategies and reduce risk exposure.
- Drive supplier rationalization, cost-down programs, and value engineering initiatives across product categories.
- Implement and manage supplier performance management frameworks , including KPIs, scorecards, corrective actions, and continuous improvement plans.
- Develop category strategies and sourcing playbooks to enhance consistency, scalability, and responsiveness across supply operations.
- Contribute to making/buy, insourcing/outsourcing, and nearshoring decisions based on deep cost modeling and supply chain risk analysis.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with critical and high-risk suppliers , ensuring strong alignment with company standards and long-term goals.
- Lead cross-functional sourcing initiatives with a focus on total cost optimization, working capital efficiency, and production throughput.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in supply chain, Engineering, Operations Management, or related field; MBA or relevant certifications (CPSM, CSCP, Lean Six Sigma) strongly preferred.
- 610+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, preferably within a complex manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Demonstrated success in high-impact sourcing leadership roles , including multi-million dollar spend categories and global supply base management.
- Deep understanding of production planning, procurement processes, MRP/ERP systems , and supplier quality controls.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to conduct TCO analysis, should-cost modeling, and capital planning impact.
- Experience in navigating volatile supply environments, including risk mitigation, dual sourcing, and supplier qualification.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Preferred Experience
- Manufacturing sectors such as aerospace, automotive, industrial equipment, medical devices, and electronics.
- Strong familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and just-in-time (JIT) operations.
- Global sourcing experience, including Asia or low-cost country (LCC) sourcing strategies.
