to join our Physics Today Team.
Physics Today , the flagship publication of AIP, is the world’s most influential and closely followed physical-sciences publication, with more than 100,000 magazine readers and 150,000 monthly website visitors. Physics Today’s mission is to be a unifying influence on the physical sciences by cultivating a shared understanding, appreciation, and sense of belonging among physical scientists that bridges disciplinary boundaries. Physics Today is seeking a full-time Senior Associate Editor with a firm grasp of advanced physics concepts and a passion for storytelling to edit feature articles, write news stories about significant research advances and other topics across a broad spectrum of fields, and produce other content for the magazine, website, and elsewhere. Like all writers and editors on the PT team, the Senior Associate Editor is responsible for developing a deep understanding of the physical sciences community and of the PT audiences and their evolving information needs, in order to produce content that is highly relevant, valuable, and in line with PT’s mission. Connect with all corners of the physical sciences, engage with some of the most prominent researchers in the field, get an inside look at new discoveries and developments, and learn something new every day. Responsibilities
Develop and edit feature articles by subject-matter experts. Identify, evaluate, and pitch story ideas about noteworthy and interesting research developments. Help ensure that PT stories span the full gamut of topics across the physical sciences community. Write clear, engaging, informative news stories, ranging from briefs to feature-length pieces, and position those stories within their broader context for PT’s audiences. Identify and develop relevant graphics and other media, taking full advantage of digital storytelling opportunities. Assist with audience development and engagement, attend scientific meetings, and maintain broad contact with members of the physical sciences community. Contribute to and advance the overall editorial effort of PT. Qualifications
A graduate degree in physics or a closely related field; a PhD is preferred. A solid understanding of the scientific enterprise. 3+ years’ experience in science writing and editing; experience at a journalism outlet strongly preferred. Exceptional talent for storytelling and for explaining complex physics-related topics to a broad audience of scientists. Excellent critical-thinking and communication skills; ability to learn new things quickly and independently. Ability to work well with others, both inside and outside the organization. Ability to multitask, handle multiple assignments and priorities, and meet deadlines. How to apply

AIP embraces a flexible hybrid work environment to balance in-person collaborative work with remote work. The team works in a flexible, hybrid schedule and reports to our offices in College Park, Maryland and Washington, DC, as needed. Employees are required to reside in the DC Metro regions of Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC.
