Position: Personal Care Assistant Location:Woodland Elementary School Schedule:2025-2026 School Year - Hours 8:15 - 2:45 Salary: $26.00 per hour To Start:October 1, 2025 A personal care assistant is a student assistant who works under the direction of a certified staff member to support and assist in providing instructional, behavioral and functional programs. They also provide personal care services to a student with disabilities who regularly require one-on-one assistance to maintain appropriate and equitable participation in the school setting. Such support and assistance includes: • Help prepare, collect and set-up materials for student participation, following teacher direction • Provide instructional, behavioral or physical assistance to students individually or in small groups at the direction of the teacher to reinforce and follow up instruction • Guide independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher; check notebooks, supervise testing and make-up work as assigned by teacher • Maintain daily activity logs for assigned student • Alert teacher(s) to any problem or information regarding the student • Serve as the primary source of information for your assigned student to help substitute teachers • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of all educators • One-on-one review of material taught by certified staff • Implementation of positive behavior support plans • Services may be provided in an inclusion or pull-out setting as recommended in the student's IEP Duties and Responsibilities • Provide support and assistance in the use of medical equipment (i.e. augmentative communication devices; activities of daily living and monitoring of health and behavior). • Assist the Principal and all school staff in maintaining a safe and orderly school environment • Assist the special education and regular education teachers in the delivery of appropriate instructional and tutorial strategies as per the Individualized Education Program (IEP) • Assist in the implementation of therapy programs developed by all related service providers • Adapt to the student's mode of communication as necessary for instructional purposes • Collect observational and academic data for the purpose of progress monitoring • Handle student's personal needs (i.e. toileting, diapering, specialized feeding, if warranted) for the purpose of providing care to the student whose primary area of concern is of medical orientation (mild-moderate lifting may be required) • Assist student's safe transitions to/from locations and environments within and around the school • Participate in specialized training related to specific and individualized needs of the student • Respond appropriately to emergency situations as per standing orders and other policies and procedures • Perform other tasks within the expectation of this job category and/or assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned or delegated by the Principal or Director of Special Education Competencies Interpersonal Skills: • Display a positive role model for students at all times • Maintain confidentiality • Show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences • Open to the views of others • Work well with others Oral and Written Communication Skills: • Speaks clearly in positive or negative situations • Listens and solicits clarification • Responds appropriately to questions Personal Competencies: • Exhibits sound and accurate judgment • Treats people with respect • Works ethically and with integrity • Uses time efficiently • Approaches others in a tactful manner • Deal courteously and tactfully with all district personnel, students, and the public • Develop effective working relationships with students, staff and school community • Reacts well under pressure • Follows instructions and responds to supervisory direction Dependability: • Takes responsibility for own actions • Consistently at work and on time
