Overview
HEI Civil is a leader in civil construction with operations in Colorado, the Carolinas, and Texas. We are seeking to hire an experienced Pipelayer/Topman to join our team.
Responsibilities
Set correct levels and elevations (e.g., flow line, grade rod, reference line).
Verify slopes meet grade elevations using levels or lasers.
Connect bell and spigot pipes, as well as water and sewer pipes.
Backfill pipes with aggregate material and native material; compact as required.
Dig manually to verify the location of existing services.
Level and prepare trench bases using compactors and hand tools.
Install and repair water, stormwater, and sewer pipe systems within trench protections.
Layout pipe routes per written instructions or drawings and coordinate with supervisors.
Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures to prevent unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
Follow foreman instructions and provide support to team members.
Work safely, complying with HSS requirements and OSHA regulations.
Maintain punctuality and reliability to be on site on time.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Minimum preferred experience: 1 year (not mandatory).
General knowledge of underground utility work, including materials, methods, and tools used in installation.
Proven track record of performing similar tasks safely and accurately.
Ability to lift and repeatedly load at least 27 kg (60 lb) consistently.
Flexibility to work some Saturdays.
Comfort working in a high-pressure environment with extreme weather changes.
High self-motivation and strong work ethic.
Attention to detail and commitment to a safe work environment.
Flexible, responsible, and able to communicate effectively with the team.
Education & Experience
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: More than 5 years operating a principal line machine.
Physical Requirements & Environment
Work is primarily outdoors in conditions from below freezing to over 90 °F, with varying humidity.
Work may be performed in confined spaces.
Exposure to odors, gases, dust, and dirt possible.
Noise levels may be moderate to high.
Requires frequently lifting and carrying 4.5–27 kg (10–60 lb); occasional lifting up to 45 kg (100 lb).
Frequent reaching overhead; standing, crawling, climbing, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and stretching.
Manual labor, including digging, may be required.
Some Saturdays required; Sundays rarely required.
Compensation & Benefits Salary: Based on experience.
