Position Title: Podiatry Tech Home Department: Podiatry Reports To: Director- Consulting Direct Reports: None FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Position Summary The Podiatry Tech provides support services to patients and staff by helping with tests, exams, and procedures and performing clerical duties as appropriate. The Podiatry Tech greets, registers and rooms patients, verifying and inputting patient demographics and insurance information and assisting in billing procedures and collections.
General Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities Adheres to scheduling template guidelines when scheduling new and return appointments; keeps schedules current; documents no show, rescheduled and/or cancelled appointments; creates telephone encounters as needed or directs calls to the appropriate staff for triage; schedules and follows-up on referral appointments and/or
testing/procedures. Serves as first contact for patients, families and visitors; greets all visitors and answers telephone in a courteous, timely and professional manner; takes accurate messages and directs calls to appropriate staff members in a timely manner; exercises independent judgment when handling routine matters or making appropriate referrals. Ensures fax in-box is kept current, all documents are linked to patient accounts daily and tests results are attached to the correct patient and order; releases medical records appropriately per policy; obtains proper authorization; follows medical records documentation guidelines regarding timeliness of reviews and completeness of documentation; obtains and documents accurate and thorough patient medical history including pertinent history, pain assessment, current medications, identified health risk factors and other needed information. Completes pre-certification for testing/procedures; completes normal result letters/calls in a timely manner; completely and accurately documents all communication with insurance companies, facilities, and patients; serves as back-up for receptionist. Reviews patient accounts prior to appointments to ensure forms are current and scanned in to EMR; verifies patient demographics at each visit; provides appropriate paperwork to new patients; ensures Medicare patient's MSP questionnaire is accurately completed at each visit; verifies insurance eligibility. Safely rooms patients; follows medical records documentation guidelines regarding timeliness of reviews and completeness of documentation; obtains and documents accurate and thorough patient medical history including pertinent history, pain assessment, current medications, identified health risk factors and other needed information. Obtains proper authorization; follows medical records documentation guidelines regarding timeliness of reviews and completeness of documentation. Works with patient to establish a referral appointment for the specialty or facility indicated by the ordering practitioner. Communicates established appointments and details with patients upon completion of a referral appointment. Cleans and prepares rooms after a patient has been dispositioned, removing and disposing of used supplies, specimens and re-stocking with clean linens and supplies. Prepares necessary supplies and equipment needed for required procedures; cleans and sends instruments to appropriate department for sterilization; ensures equipment is in working order and properly maintained. Helps in other areas within Consulting, as applicable. Documents appropriate data in the patient chart when care is provided; enters and verifies orders in the computer system. Complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Participates in performance improvement activities. Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Licensure
Requirements Current IL C.N.A., CCMA, or related certification required BLS required
Experience Requirements CNA or related certification minimum 2 years Preferred Office/Clerical setting minimum 2 years Preferred
Computer Skills Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Outlook
Additional Skills Ability to work independently, prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner Excellent ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to changes in assignment Excellent communication and customer service skills
