Are you a detail-driven accounting professional who thrives on accuracy, organization, and collaboration?

State Mechanical Services (SMS), a proud subsidiary of MechanAir, is seeking a Junior Accountant to support our construction finance team. In this role, youll own Accounts Payable and certified payroll reporting while contributing to month-end close processes and general accounting support that keep our operations running smoothly.

What Youll Do As a Junior Accountant, youll work closely with vendors, project teams, and the accounting department to ensure financial accuracy and compliance across multiple workflows. Youll gain hands-on exposure to construction accounting while developing skills to grow into higher-level roles. Process and code vendor invoices in Sage Paperless & Sage 100 Contractor Match invoices to POs, verify job cost coding, and route for approvals Manage vendor files including W-9s and insurance certificates Prepare certified payroll reports for public works/prevailing wage projects Submit reports accurately and on time through customer portals Assist with month-end close and reconciliations for AP and payroll liabilities Provide documentation support for auditors, project managers, and leadership

What You Bring 13 years Accounts Payable or general accounting experience (construction preferred) Understanding of certified payroll requirements for public projects Strong Excel skills (filters, lookups, pivot tables a plus) Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management Ability to meet multiple deadlines with accuracy Bonus Points For: Experience with Sage 100 Contractor or Sage Paperless Background in union or prevailing wage environments Exposure to AR, reconciliations, or month-end close
