The ideal candidate will be responsible for payroll operations, ensuring timely and accurate compensation for employees while adhering to federal and state regulations, including prevailing wage laws. This role reports directly to the Controller and requires knowledge of construction industry specific payroll requirements and experience processing certified payroll. Job Duties/Responsibilities Process weekly payroll for a workforce including salaried and hourly employees. Ensure accurate and timely submission of certified payroll reports for prevailing wage projects. Track overtime, holiday pay, and other special payroll-related items in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Maintain and update payroll records, including wage rates, tax deductions, and benefits contributions. Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure payroll transactions are properly recorded and reconciled. Prepare and submit certified payroll reports as required by federal, state, and local government contracts. Ensure compliance with prevailing wage laws. Review and maintain accurate records for prevailing wage employees, including verifying wage rates and job classifications. Address any compliance issues or discrepancies related to certified payroll reporting. Reconcile quarterly payroll tax returns. Assist controller with annual insurance audits. Complete any specialized Department of Labor reporting. Provide requested payroll reports to Project Managers and Division Presidents. Collaborate with Human Resources with internal benefit management and other payroll related items. Handle payroll inquiries from employees and process corrections as needed. Assist with W-2 preparation and distribution. Stay up to date on changes in payroll tax laws, labor laws, and construction industry regulations. Other duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities Strong understanding of construction industry labor laws, certified payroll requirements, and prevailing wage laws (e.g., Davis-Bacon Act) High attention to detail with the ability to work under tight deadlines. Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and payroll software with the ability to adapt to new technology/software. Must be a self-motivator and team participant. Excellent verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with peers. Preferred Qualifications Minimum 5 years’ experience in a payroll function with 2 years’ direct experience with certified payroll. Proficient in construction-specific payroll software and familiarity with state and federal reporting systems. Full-Time, In-Person Target Salary Range: $70,000 to $80,000.
