Hardware Test Engineer

The Hardware Test Engineer supports automated packaging, sortation, and labeling platforms designed to accelerate and optimize delivery operations. This role centers on providing technical testing expertise across packaging, sortation, and labeling automation systems. In collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering teams, the Hardware Test Engineer designs and executes tests on proprietary packaging machinery and automation systems. The resulting data informs iterative design improvements, ensuring that automation solutions remain simple, effective, and cost-efficient, while also promoting sustainable packaging practices, streamlined supply chains, and reduced total cost of ownership. Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to design and execute packaging machinery and automation initiatives. Develop and conduct rigorous product testing in lab environments or at operational field sites. Deliver comprehensive test result reports to stakeholders. Apply mechatronic principles to design and implement prototype machine enhancements. Contribute to the development of subsystem designs, electro-mechanical testing, lab testing, test fixture design, and design verification. 2+ years of quality assurance engineering experience. Experience in verification testing. Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience. Experience working in new technology or product development. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Experience designing and planning test conditions, test scripts, and test data sets. Deep hands-on technical expertise in testing of electro-mechanical systems. Experience writing test reports analyzing data. Experience in automation or robotic systems. Understanding of rapid prototyping options. Experience with Agile Development. Experience with FEA (Ansys and/or SW Simulation). Understanding of safety systems. Familiarity with a manufacturing environment. Basic coding/scripting capabilities. Experience creating test plans derived from functional design requirements. Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance. Experience in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred). Design experience of simple parts, assemblies, and fixtures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability and desire to work hands-on in lab environments. Join the SEIT (Systems Engineering, Integration and Testing) team, a multi-disciplinary environment of system engineers, data scientists, and test engineers dedicated to advancing robotics/automation knowledge. The position requires 25-30% national travel. Initially, you will focus on lab acclimation before gradually transitioning to more independent field testing. Work in a lab environment at BFI1 (Auburn, WA) and BOS27 (Westborough, MA), collaborating with MSP organization members and focusing on conducting test cases post-approval of system-level requirements. Participate in data handling and analysis, including basic logistics tasks such as palletizing and inducting items. This is a Contract position based out of Westborough, Massachusetts. The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
