United's Digital Technology team designs, develops and maintains scalable technology solutions with innovative architectures, data analytics, and digital solutions to power critical business capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, strategy, and evolution of enterprise applications and API integrations.
  • Define scalable, resilient, and performant API solutions; create roadmaps; establish best practices to deliver measurable value.
  • Collaborate with enterprise-level architects to modernize and optimize API design, aligning with long-term business goals and enabling innovation, agility, and high performance.
  • Define and maintain API product strategy, roadmaps, and frameworks; refine APIs and integrations to support enterprise initiatives while maintaining KPIs, usability, and scalability.
  • Develop technical standards, reference architectures, and design patterns for scalable APIs and integrations.
  • Ensure architectural alignment across domains, addressing security, reliability, extensibility, and manageability.
  • Research emerging technologies and industry trends; conduct proofs of concepts to assess new solutions and drive adoption of modern design patterns.
  • Manage business case development, scope definition, and delivery roadmaps for API-related strategic initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and observability tools to ensure efficient API delivery and reliability; monitor and optimize API performance.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Related fields: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems (preferred)
  • 7+ years of technical experience
  • Experience in enterprise architecture and managing complex enterprise applications and infrastructure
  • Experience with APIs and managing API products (user feedback, requirements, issues)
  • Ability to prioritize confidently under pressure and with limited resources
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview process to meet job qualifications
  • Reliable, punctual attendance as an essential function

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience at a technology company with a monetized API product used by external customers
  • Experience with Kong Gateway and Kong Mesh
  • Strong DevOps/CICD and observability skills (e.g., Dynatrace)
  • PCI compliance experience for enterprise applications
  • Security and vulnerability management knowledge
  • Data management expertise across relational and non-relational databases
