Senior Software Development in Test Engineer (SDET) role at The Walt Disney Company. Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity. The team focuses on building test automation, tools, reports, and services to enable product engineering teams to deliver high-quality Disney digital applications with reliability and efficient time-to-market.

Job Summary: As a Senior Software Development in Test Engineer (SDET) within the DEEP&T group, you will impact Disney fans worldwide by working on innovative digital products and platforms across Disney, ESPN, National Geographic, ABC, Marvel, Star Wars, and more. You will be a leader on the Quality Engineering team, with the primary goal of continually improving product quality while reducing time-to-market and enabling innovation. This role makes you a stakeholder in every digital property developed and released by the DEEP&Technology group, as well as the platforms and enterprise applications that power them.
As an experienced senior software engineer with a passion for driving quality and productivity into world-class applications and services, you will be part of a small, driven team building test automation, tools, reports, and services that empower product engineering teams to deliver Disney digital applications with the quality and reliability guests expect.
Responsibilities
- Developing and supporting test automation frameworks, execution environments, build systems, and reporting tools
- Contributing to the development and maintenance of the architecture for frameworks, execution environments, build systems, and tooling used across multiple products
- Independently break large stories into smaller tasks based on stakeholder requirements
- Design solutions and architecture for new project features, with occasional guidance from more senior engineers
- Maintaining documentation meant for end user consumption as well as project contributor documentation
- Support and mentor developers and manual testers through code reviews, knowledge-sharing, and technical leadership
- Investigating and resolving framework, tool, or environment issues affecting services
- Becoming a core member of the Productivity Engineering team, helping others increase productivity through innovation, and championing Disney Quality
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a software development Engineer in Test (SDET) role, including automated testing of front-end and back-end services using a structured programming language
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
- Proficient in object-oriented design and expertise with Node/JavaScript, Java, or Python
- Experience with test automation and unit testing frameworks
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Excellent collaboration skills and ability to use SDLC tools such as Jira and Confluence, and version control systems
- Experience leading one to two teams in technical solutioning
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; highly motivated, self-starting individual
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience developing test automation frameworks in Python
- Experience shipping a production React or Node.js application
- Experience in mobile and web application development and testing
- Experience developing applications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS)
- Experience working with Agile methodologies
- Working knowledge of web accessibility fundamentals
- Experience with Kafka, Amazon SQS, and Kinesis
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker, and CI/CD systems
- Experience writing Gherkin syntax to facilitate automated test scenario development
- Experience developing advanced mocking mechanisms (e.g., rule-based proxies and dummy-services)
- Experience with test suite/case/run management tools (e.g., Jira Xray)
Compensation The hiring range for this position in Los Angeles, CA is $138,900 to $186,200; in Seattle, WA & New York, NY is $145,400 to $195,000; and in San Francisco is $152,100 to $203,900. The base pay offered will consider internal equity and may vary by geographic region, knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided, in addition to medical, financial, and other benefits, depending on level and position.
