Moondream AI
Overview
Moondream , a funded Seattle AI startup. We ship a tiny, fast VLM that runs anywhere (edge, cloud). We are looking for someone to own the front end of the product that lets customers customize/tune the model without being ML experts. Think: data review flows that feel slick (Figma/Vercel vibes), eval dashboards, a stupid-fast playground, and a clean billing/credits UX. Small team, high autonomy, real users today (retail, manufacturing, security, etc.).
Stack : Next.js, TypeScript, React, Shad/Tailwind, tRPC/Drizzle, SST/AWS.
Location: We’re in Capitol Hill, Seattle; hybrid is fine.
Responsibilities
- Own the front end end-to-end — architecture, component library (shadcn/ui + Tailwind), performance, accessibility, and shipping to prod.
- Build the core surfaces : data review / labeling flows, eval dashboards, RL fine-thinking UX, a stupid-fast playground, and clean billing/credits screens.
- Define and enforce FE standards : code quality, type safety, testing, design tokens, a11y, performance budgets.
- Work tightly with backend on contracts (tRPC), schemas (Drizzle), and deployment (SST/AWS, edge/SSR).
- Instrument everything — analytics, tracing, feature flags, and experiment frameworks to learn fast.
- Prototype quickly with real users; partner with UX to run lightweight tests and ship improvements continuously.
- Mentor & grow a small team (code reviews, pairing, hiring loop) while staying very hands-on.
- Own CI/CD for the web app (lint/test/build pipelines, preview deploys, error monitoring).
- Champion security & authorization in the UI (RBAC/scope-based perms, safe client patterns).
Qualifications
- 5+ years building production web apps with React, TypeScript, and Next.js (or equivalent).
- Strong product/UX intuition — you can take a Figma file (or create one) and ship something polished.
- Deep familiarity with performance tuning (RSC, code-splitting, React Query/Suspense, Web Workers, etc.).
- Experience with typed backends and contracts (tRPC/GraphQL), ORMs (Drizzle/Prisma), and Postgres .
- Comfortable in SST/AWS , serverless/edge runtimes, and modern CI/CD.
- Testing discipline : unit (Vitest/Jest), e2e (Playwright/Cypress), visual/regression as needed.
- Accessibility, security, and reliability aren’t afterthoughts for you.
- Bonus: you’ve built data-heavy tools (dashboards, labeling/review UIs), ML/AI tooling , or contributed to OSS.
- Seattle-based or willing to work hybrid from Capitol Hill.
