Membership and Strategic Partnerships Director

Overview
This position is a critical multifaceted role responsible for several key functional areas, including driving membership growth, securing strategic partnerships, and ensuring smooth operations. This role leads membership development, including enhancing member recruitment and retention strategies, fostering membership engagement, and continuing excellent member services. This role coordinates internal staff and drives non-dues and conference revenue through strategic partnerships, sponsors, and exhibitors.
Responsibilities
- Membership : Develop and execute membership development strategies, including membership recruitment, retention, and engagement initiatives; manage annual membership renewal and billing process, including working with the team to conduct direct email and phone outreach to ensure all payments are collected; develop membership prospect lists, conduct outreach and recruitment efforts, create customized membership value proposition pitches, and track prospects through onboarding; coordinate with the marketing team to create targeted campaigns and promotional efforts to drive membership growth and engagement; develop and manage a comprehensive onboarding program that introduces new members to the value and benefits of membership and encourages long-term engagement; ensure all membership and general inquiries are responded to in a timely manner and monitor FAQs to identify communication gaps.
- Operations : Collaborate and act as liaison between internal functional staff teams, ensuring proper coordination and alignment; utilize available tools, systems, and technologies to enhance operational efficiencies, streamline workflows, and develop data-driven solutions to member and customer challenges as needed; liaise with external legal counsel and manage coordination of legal document review.
- Strategic Partnerships : Develop and execute initiatives to secure strategic partnerships, conference sponsors, and exhibitors; identify and research prospective sponsors and exhibitors, conduct outreach campaigns and schedule introductory calls with decision-makers; track prospect engagement, schedule follow-up touchpoints, and ensure opportunities are followed; maintain organized records of sponsor details, logos, signage needs, and other entitlements; serve as central point of contact for sponsors before, during, and after conferences; collect sponsor and exhibitor feedback and share insights for future improvements.
- Other : Respond to phone and email inquiries from members and prospective members about specific and general association inquiries; stay informed about member organizations and developments within the medical rehabilitation field; perform other duties as assigned that align with the mission and vision of the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 7–10 years of professional experience in a similar capacity
- Preferred experience working for an association in the medical or healthcare fields
- Experience with association management software and related association technology; quick learner of new technology
- Knowledge and experience in financial management, budgeting, and oversight of budgets
- Exceptional ability to interface with executive leadership, establish credibility, and build effective relationships
- Demonstrated expertise in managing membership lifecycle strategies, including acquisition, onboarding, engagement, and retention
- Experience and track record of implementing strategies to drive membership growth and revenue generation
- Experience identifying and engaging potential members for long-term retention
- Ability to articulate membership value proposition and benefits to members and nonmembers
- Proven ability to develop prospect lists and outreach in membership and/or strategic partnership capacity
- Effective planning and organizational skills
- Demonstrated supervision of professional and administrative staff
- Strong customer service orientation and effective interaction with staff at all levels
Work Model & Travel
Virtual work model. Candidates will ideally live in the Washington, DC area. The position will operate primarily in a virtual environment with regular pre-planned in-person meetings in Washington, DC where attendance is expected. In-person meetings foster collaboration and team cohesion. Candidates outside the Washington, DC area will be considered; exceptions for fully remote work may be granted on a case-by-case basis. Occasional travel to Washington, DC area, AMRPA conferences, and visits to AMRPA member hospitals may be required.
