Plant With Purpose is a $14.4 million, 40+ year-old Christian organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty, reversing deforestation, and restoring hope through the power of Jesus Christ, working through partners in nine countries.
Under the direction of its Board of Directors, the new Chief Executive Officer will lead this growing organization into its envisioned future. Responsibilities include operations planning and evaluation, policy development and administration, personnel and fiscal management, fund development, public relations, and ensuring that international programs are resourced and effective.
History and Today
Plant With Purpose was founded in 1984 and has grown to become a global leader at the nexus of spiritual renewal, environmental restoration, and poverty alleviation. The organization works in nine countries with partnerships involving local churches and communities, and has planted nearly 80 million trees with direct partnerships with more than 650,000 people. Revenues have grown from $7.4 million in 2020 to $14.4 million in 2025, with funding primarily from foundations and major gifts from individuals.
The current CEO, Scott Sabin, will retire at the end of 2025. The Board operates under policy governance and consists of 12 members, with about 43 U.S.-based staff and international partners in nine countries.
Position Profile
The new CEO will be a “next generation” executive leader who is strategically minded, administratively skilled, highly collaborative, and able to inspire and motivate in a challenging nonprofit space. The leader will navigate a complex organization with domestic operations and governance and nine international partners with their own boards and staff. Success will be measured by healthy relationships with the Board, staff, partners, and funders, and by achieving goals in the Purpose Plan and related initiatives.

Department: Executive
Status: Exempt
Location: Remote (USA), Southern California a plus
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Direction: collaborate with the Board to set and advance the organization’s strategic plan, pursue external opportunities, and lead fundraising efforts to support field programs.
- Fundraising and Development: maintain donor contacts, support the development team, and nurture board fundraising capacity.
- Partnerships & External Relationships: publicly represent the organization, engage field partners, governments, NGOs, and international donors, and build strategic external relationships.
- Board Governance & Executive Management: serve as Ex Officio, provide timely information to the Board, oversee staff and departments, ensure compliance and financial stewardship, uphold core values, and manage risks.
Education & Experience
- MA or MBA in international development or related field
- At least ten (10) years of experience in developing and overseeing a nonprofit organization
- Experience in international development and working with Boards
- Strong strategic thinking, written and verbal communication skills, and ability to manage multiple projects
- Experience with major gifts and foundation fundraising preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite on Mac

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: In the $200,000 range, depending on qualifications and experience.
- Benefits: Medical, dental, vision; 401(k) with 8% match after 6 months; life and AD&D insurance.
- Vacation: 20 days, plus 12 paid holidays and up to 8 sick days.
- Relocation: Not applicable.
- Travel: Up to 35%, both domestic and international.
