Webster Bank CIO organization is seeking a dynamic and experienced Solutions Architect to join our team. The Solutions Architect would be responsible for guiding, developing designs, and managing a portfolio of applications with special focus on supporting the commercial line of business. The Solutions Architect would also be accountable for defining target architecture, strategy, and roadmaps to identify, implement and rationalize core banking solutions. The Architect partners with cross functional teams to bridge the gap between various teams and projects to ensure solutions are consistent with the target architecture, cost-effective, and rationalized to meet the business goals. The Solutions Architect will provide the necessary leadership, analysis and design tasks related to the application portfolio in the commercial banking domain.
Responsibilities
- Provide solutions and architecture for key business initiatives and own a portfolio within commercial banking domains.
- Work with business, operations, and application owners to identify, assess, and prioritize opportunities of creating a portfolio of reusable services aligned with prominent banking architectures and standards like open banking.
- Create reference architecture, design patterns and strategy for commercial banking systems and other applications.
- Use Enterprise Architecture framework and tools to create a roadmap and architectural artifacts to clarify, communicate and align on major initiatives in the bank.
- Provide architecture/solution support to strategic initiatives in the bank and align with the services/integration strategy.
- Design and build a robust, performant, and scalable infrastructure to support build, run, monitoring, and management of services.
- Collaborate with risk and cybersecurity teams to integrate security practices into all architecture activities and manage potential risks.
- Mentor junior architects, engineers, and developers, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive working culture.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies, tools, and trends in commercial banking, modern banking architectures, and integration platforms; recommend adoption where appropriate.
- Analyze the business-IT environment to detect deficiencies and recommend improvements (systems of record, differentiation, and innovation).
- Analyze technology industry trends and determine their potential impact on the enterprise.
- Build, contribute and maintain architecture standards and best practices in collaboration with Webster’s EA practice.
Education, Experience & Skills
- Required: bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or engineering.
- Preferred: master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, BIAN, TOGAF).
- Required: 10+ years of experience in a commercial banking context in architecture and design, with experience in banking domain and standards like open banking and BIAN.
- Required: in-depth knowledge of API design and development, SOA, and event-driven architectures.
- Preferred: familiarity with cloud-native architectures, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Preferred: understanding of financial services regulatory requirements and their impact on system architecture.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities with effective communication to explain complex technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in a banking/financial services environment is essential. Experience with core banking applications like Fiserv is required.
- Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and methodologies (e.g., ArchiMate, TOGAF, Zachman).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure.
- Leadership capabilities to guide and influence multi-disciplinary teams.
Salary and Benefits
The estimated salary range for this position is $155,000.00 to $175,000.00. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
